August 2015 Newsletter

News from A.A.Blatch H.Q.

Hello and welcome to our August newsletter,

I couldn't resist putting a pic up top for the petrol-heads amongst us. With Ford Australia (and Holden) stopping all local manufacturing, Ford will now be importing right-hand drive versions of the iconic Mustang muscle car to fill the power vacuum left by the demise of the Aussie Falcon. What's more, unlike the eye-watering prices for Mustangs a few years back, the new 2016 Mustang will start around the AUD$50,000 for the base model V8 and are tipped to be the new (and terrifying) highway patrol cars.

In breaking news...we're now on facebook! Visit our page and like us!

In our August newsletter, we look at show dates around the area, investigate AdBlue, check out a film from Loctite and Penrite as well as offer up some great bargains. This month's specials are unbelievable.  Don't take my word for it, have a look through them below. In other news, we're proud to welcome Michael Lennox to the A.A.Blatch team.

Best wishes,

Allan

The show must go on...

Let's look at what's on around the Central West

That's right, the local shows are coming up in August and this is always a special time around the Central West. For the last 29 years, A.A.Blatch has supported local agriculture by sponsoring various pasture competitions at the Parkes show. This year, we'll be sponsoring the Introduced Improved Pasture category as well as the First Year Pastoral Competition. I’m sure all the various categories will be hotly contested once again this year.

Here’s a run-down of dates for the different shows in Aug:

  • Tullamore 14-15th August
  • Trundle 18-19th August
  • Bedgerabong 22th August
  • Peak Hill 25-26th August
  • Condobolin 28-29th August
  • Parkes 31th August - 2nd Sept.

Wearing me down.

Cut down friction with cut price plastics.

A customer's airseeder has about 100 of these plastic wear pads. Rather than pay a fortune for them from the machinery dealership, he had us organise pieces of hard-wearing nylon, cut to the millimetre. It's as simple as that.

We can supply all different sorts of hard-wearing plastics in various forms, including clear perspex sheets for windows. Keep us in mind when something's wearing you down.

Trivial pursuits: What is AdBlue?

Let's discuss the particulates.

If you've been past any service station in the last few years, or even been outside in public, you'll have seen big signs for Adblue.

What is it?
AdBlue is another name for Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) and is used in engines equipped for it, such as Daimler Chrysler's BlueTec engines. It's an aqueous urea solution made with 32.5% high purity urea and 67.5% deionised water. Adblue is used as a consumable in selective catalytic reduction in order to lower nitrogen oxides in diesel exhaust emissions.

What is urea?
It's the main nitrogen-containing substance found in the urine of mammals. It is used as an agricultural fertiliser as a way of putting nitrogen into the soil. It can also be made from synthetic ammonia and carbon dioxide.

Why use AdBlue?
It makes the exhaust coming from a diesel engine cleaner for the environment.

How does it do this?
OK, now hang on, this is where it starts getting a little heavy-going. Diesel engines can be run with a lean burn air-to-fuel ratio (overstoichiometric ratio), to ensure full combustion of soot and to prevent the exhaust of unburnt fuel like in the old days when trucks would be using 'dirty diesel' and blowing plumes of black smoke into the air. The excess of oxygen necessarily leads to generation of nitrogen oxides from the nitrogen in the air. These nitrogen oxides are harmful pollutants to the environment so a selective catalytic reduction is used to reduce the amount of nitrogen oxides released into the environment. AdBlue is injected into the exhaust pipeline where the aqueous urea vaporizes and decomposes to form ammonia and carbon dioxide. With the SCR (selective catalytic reduction) the nitrogen oxides are catalytically reduced by the ammonia into water and nitogren which are both harmless.

So you're telling me AdBlue is just sheep's pee and water?
Ahhh...kind of.

So I should run out to the shed and try and make it?
No, as it won't work, you'll end up breaking your truck and you'll probably blow up your shed.

Old business. New blood.

You may have noticed a new trainee in the shop over the last few months. "New Michael" as we call him, is a smart young man with a great can-do attitude and has already become a great addition to the A.A.Blatch family. Michael was a Lithgow local until upgrading to Parkes. Before embarking on an edge-of-your-seat career as spare parts trainee, "New Michael" worked as a fully qualified glazier.

The Good Oil

Let us quote you on changing to Penrite.

Have you noticed more & more mechanical workshops are putting Penrite signs outside to announce that they've changed over to Penrite? The Penrite roll-out through Australia has been like a tidal wave thanks to it's premium quality, OEM credentials and the fact it's Australian owned. Did you know it's even the choice of the Australian Defence Force?
Now, changing oil can be a hassle but not if we do the hard work for you: Click the reply button and tell us the details of your Mitsubishi car, Kenworth truck, Case IH header, Caterpillar bulldozer, Toyota 4WD, Claas Tractor (you get my point) and we'll tell you which Penrite product is OEM approved and suitable and even refill capacity for each part of the machine! Or, just tell us the brand & type of oil you're using and we'll send you a quote with everything you need to know! We can even have the oil freighted directly out of the warehouse to your farm, freight-free. If you're curious to see what sort of Transmission or diff lube your Massey Fergusson tractor needs for example just click here.

Glorious historical insults Part 3.
