From the President

With the cooler months upon us and less events in the community to attend it you may think the Toy Library has gone into hibernation, but that is not the case! We have been working hard behind the scenes to deliver even more to our valued members so spread the word, Hastings Toy Library is the place to be!

Our committee have been researching and testing toys from every genre and our shelves are almost bursting with new, fun and educational ways to entertain family. We have also been working on some great new party pack ideas and, thanks to the grant money we received in collaboration with Rosebud and Mornington Toy Libraries, we will soon have tables and chairs available for party hire, too.

As we approach our AGM and look back on the last twelve months it’s wonderful to see how much we have achieved thanks to our committee and supportive community of members. Thank you for being a part of our library, and if you want to be more involved our friendly committee always has room for more.

See you in the library soon!

New items added to our collection have included the Hape Dynamo Dominoes, Teeter Poppers and the Tegu Blocks!
Our Annual General Meeting is happening again on Saturday 1st August. Committee positions will be elected on, and we welcome any of our members to join the committee. It’s a relaxed, easy-going committee who all share common interests, namely KIDS and TOYS! Perks of being a Committee member include free membership, one free jumping castle hire and a say in toy purchases. Remember, we are a volunteer organisation and we can’t run without enthusiastic volunteers! Contact Claire if you’re interested!
NEW TOY REVIEW: TEGU BLOCKS

Fun, educational and aesthetically pleasing. That’s what I look for in a toy, and these Magnetic Blocks from Tegu totally nail it!

They were thoroughly enjoyed by my 5 year old and 2 year old boys. And I admit there were a couple of times I played with them by myself! Making impossible geometric sculptures from beautifully textured, pastel coloured blocks is positively soothing.

My littlest guy made cars and then moveable gates and garages he could drive them into. We also made some moveable ‘cranes’, ‘windmills’ and ‘whirly-gigs’. My eldest enjoyed experimenting with the magnets and building larger formations, learning about weight and balance by seeing how many he could stack on each side before his creation toppled.

Drawbacks? It would have been nice to have more pieces to play with. That being said we had them out again and again over a few weeks and kept coming up with new ways to play.

Overall I rate these pretty high and would recommend them to anyone. It’s a whole new level of block building plus so much more. I’m giving them a 9 out of 10!
