NEWS FROM THE JACKIE FACTORY

MOTHER FIFTEEN

It's been fifteen years since our venue MOTHER closed with the all-night bacchanal MOTHER'S END on 6/29/00. In the years that followed THE JACKIE FACTORY and our many conspirators have continued to bring the creative spirit of alternative clubbing forward despite the obvious challenges. In celebration of all MOTHER's creative family have created since we lost "The Hacienda", THE JACKIE FACTORY announces MOTHER FIFTEEN, three events around the 15th anniversary of the club's closing..

First up: NIGHT PAVING - ROB ROTH's aural history of MOTHER and its core club JACKIE 60 - debuts 6/26 at NYC's MAD MUSEUM. On 7/1, JACKIE/MOTHER founders CHI CHI VALENTI and JOHNNY DYNELL join new and old nightlife partners including BATH SALTS, DJ SAMMY JO, WITCH CAMP, EDITRIX ABBY and many more to bring back beloved JACKIE 60 annual THE BROWN PARTY in a new East Village venue. And finally, JACKIE 60 invites and ephemera will be part of the WHITEBOX GALLERY show THE LAST PARTY on view this Summer.

We thank you, our beloved audience and friends, for helping us do this work for a quarter century. Viva Jackie, Viva MOTHER and long live the Experimental Night - Won't You Join Us?

FRIDAY JUNE 26
NIGHT PAVING
THE AURAL HISTORY OF JACKIE 60 + MOTHER

As a part of the MAD MUSEUM's FUN Fellowship in the Social Practice of Nightlife, artist and CLICK + DRAG founder ROB ROTH will preview his project NIGHT PAVING: THE AURAL HISTORY OF JACKIE 60 + MOTHER at the museum on 6/26.  This audio installation will offer a soundscape journey of storytelling and music with the producers, performers, and attendees of the legendary Tuesday club-night JACKIE 60 and the nightclub MOTHER that it birthed.

Staged as a 'silent disco' listening party, NIGHT PAVING traces the history of Jackie 60 to its transformation into MOTHER and its final days at the end of the 20th Century. With a soundtrack mix by DJ JOHNNY DYNELL and the voices of those who made this moment in NYC nightlife a reality.  Stories are shared from Mother's creators CHI CHI VALENTI and JOHNNY DYNELL as well as performers, patrons and collaborators KITTY BOOTS, RICHARD MOVE,  DEBBIE HARRY, ANTONY HEGARTY (ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS), ALBA CLEMENTE,  BASIL TWIST, JOHNNY REINHOLD, JACK DOROSHOW (AKA FLAWLESS SABRINA), JOEY ARIAS, MARC JACOBS, LUCY SEXTON, MICHAEL CAVADIAS, GENESIS P-ORRIDGE, PENNY ARCADE and many more, all to a soundtrack that evokes "That Jackie Feeling".

JACKIE 60 producers THE JACKIE FACTORY (JOHNNY DYNELL, CHI CHI VALENTI, KITTY BOOTS + RICHARD MOVE) threw their first BROWN PARTY at the brand-new club in 1991. A tongue-in-cheek take on the era's ubiquitous BLACK PARTY and WHITE PARTY on the gay "circuit", the night was an immediate cult hit. Along with the spectacular NIGHT OF 1000 STEVIES (now in its 25th year), THE BROWN PARTY became one of the Tuesday night party's Jackie 60 Annuals, and was staged every year till host venue MOTHER closed in 2000, and occasionally since.

As the crowning event of MOTHER FIFTEEN, celebrating fifteen years since the eccentric, artistic MOTHER closed its doors, Valenti and Dynell return with PYRAMID club founder HATTIE HATHAWAY, and the protagonists of Brooklyn's beloved, soon to close weekly BATH SALTS to stage the first Brown Party since 2006's "LOVE-IN" edition on THE FRYING PAN. The bill is still in formation, but already includes WITCH CAMP (AMBER MARTIN and NATH ANN CARRERA) for a DJ set and some folky strumming, JACKIE MC extraordinaire PAUL ALEXANDER, DJs SAMMY JO (SCISSOR SISTERS) and ALTHEA LOVELESS (original BROWN PARTY Lounge DJ) and performances curated by SEVERELY MAME and MACY RODMAN of Bath Salts. Other luminaries lending a hand are EDITRIX ABBY of BURNING MAN, Big Daddy of Gay Nightlife DANIEL NARDICIO, and more.

THE LAST PARTY
THE INFLUENCE OF NEW YORK'S CLUB CULTURE: MID 70s – EARLY 90s

A multi-disciplinary show curated by ANTHONY HADEN-GUEST

WHITEBOX
329 BROOME ST NYC
JUNE 17 — AUGUST 23

We will be displaying a selection of JACKIE 60 invites and ephemera as part of this massive Club show (these will be added to the show the week of 6/22 to coincide with MOTHER FIFTEEN) and may do a JACKIE'S PLAYHOUSE performance during the run as well. The Last Party celebrates the creative ferment that exploded in New York's club culture in the mid 70s, following Watergate and the Vietnam War. It became a phenomenon whose influence spanned three decades and crossed continents until it waned in the early 1990s.

The Last Party is a survey exhibition of fine art, graffiti and street art, photography, video, fashion, and memorabilia that is profiled in Anthony Haden-Guest's 1997 book, The Last Party: Studio 54, Disco and The Culture of the Night. This exhibition will run throughout the summer at WhiteBox. Offsite musical performances and capsule exhibitions will be hosted at ACME and VS Gallery (dates to be announced).
