On Sunday 7 June Dean Carlise, Director of Rugby introduced the Future Prems Program (FPP) to a group of invited U15, U17 and Colts players and parents.
The FPP is part of the clubs vision to develop our juniors within the U15s, U17s and U19s and provide a very clear pathway into our Premier Teams.

It is this very vision that will assist the club to retain its high level juniors along with attracting others, and will enable us to strategically implement an efficient succession plan based on player depth in positions, and alleviate the need to recruit from outside.

We will outline FPP, which has three development focus areas

Rugby skill and game development
Principals of rugby
Core skills
Position and unit specific skills
Performance assessment

Physical development
Strength
Speed and agility
Aerobic conditioning
Flexibility

Off field development
Life Skills
Nutrition and hydration
Injury prevention
Recovery
Mental skills
Laws of the game

Joondalup Brothers, through the FPP, and its coaching staff, support staff and structures, will provide the ideal sporting environment for your son to develop his rugby talent to the fullest extent possible and also, hopefully, to develop as a person.

In short, Joondalup Brothers will be ideally placed to provide a pathway to Premier Rugby and higher representative honours.

More details of the FPP will be outlined in future newsletters.

What a great day for rugby fans everywhere as the mighty boys in blue went head to head with bayswater. The crowd was entertained by the level of skill and finese the guys portrayed on the field they have come along way from there first game to a well drilled unit working together and understanding the meaning of team work. under the guidance of Derek /Alby and Sam The team has moulded together well and and are excitng to watch and a pleasure to train. A special mention to Taine Harrision who was our man of the match who ran in a plethora of tries an excitng young man to watch but also the rest of the team who continue to show up every week and put theie best on the field. Thanks to the club, our manager Sam, and the parents, thanks for your support.
Under 8 Blue
This week we had a bit of a reality check playing Perth Bayswater Black. They were a big team who were always on top of the ball and took every opportunity to run with it. Our only try of the day was scored by Adam, and Harry took out the Man of the Match with some great tackles. Final score 12-1. A big thank you to Sebastian, Harry M and Hugh who gave us a few extra players.
Under 8 White
A beautiful sunny morning at Perth Bayswater's ground in Morley saw the Under 8 Whites take on the mighty Roo Dogs from Waneroo Black team. Both teams had great skills, ball handling, rucking over, some good break away play and amazing tackles. It was great to see a very even and fair game played with fabulous sportsmanship from both sides. Dermott Arthy put his body on the line with some hard hitting tackles and for that he walked away with Player of the Match.
All of the Under 8 teams seemed short of players and most kids enjoyed having to play two games and help out in their age groups, well done Boys. Two things we would like to ask all parents/ guardians. Could you please arrive at the match at least 30 minutes prior to the kick off, this will allow the team to warm up, undertake a few drills and get changed into their tops and if for some reason you are not going to make the Saturday matches, please email your coach and manager. Thanks !!
Under 9 White
Our U9 White had a tough game against the big boys from Bayswater Black, with our biggest boy about the 5th largest on the field! That did not stop us from going hard at them and we found that we stood our ground during the rucks and malls. Tackle time however, was not as good as the previous two weeks and some strong runs from the Bayswater big boys and two interceptions resulted in them scoring a few more tries than us.  Our boys are slowly improving their game awareness and finding themselves in the right place at the right time more often. Man of the match went to Warrick for leading by example at ruck time.
Under 9 Red
A great effort by our boys who were playing a very strong yet often overly aggressive Scarborough outfit. Well done to Gavin our ref who, having to adjudicate many high and lifting tackles, was (to steal a famous Honey Badger line) "kept on his toes like a midget at a urinal!" A couple of great tries to Chris J and an unfortunate no-try to Kris R who overran the unmarked and therefore confusing dead ball line. Solid games by Jack, Charlie, Harrison and Dylan as well as a man of the match performance by Alan whose defensive game is showing huge improvement.
Under 10 Black
It was a beautiful morning at the Pat O'Hara Reserve on the 13 June 2015 when Joondalup Black squared off against Bayswater. We immediately noted that these boys were big and that there was a whole bunch of replacements to be used. Initially the game started with our boys on the back foot with three tries against us in quick succession. We quickly realised that the basics were going to be important in this game! Tackle -Tackle - Tackle! Although we were somewhat rattled at the start our boys found some rhythm in the second part of the first half.
After the half time break Joondalup came out with some wrong tackling and good defence. The ball was kept with the forwards and some great runs were made. There were a few injuries during the game with Robert, Tommy and Milan getting a few knocks about. Milan came off halfway through the second half. The boys did not give up right up until the end. At the end of the game we had 4 tries against us. The best tacklers of the match were Michau (10) followed by Robert and Milan. In my opinion the winger Michau has consistently been an asset to the team. Although he is slight of build he definitely does not lack heart or speed. He has a great future ahead of him. Coach Todd Crombie congratulated the team on a good second half defence and encouraged them to keep moving during the game.
Under 11 Gold
Nail biter against Nedlands - Our U11 Golds managed to hold on for a closely contested win against Nedlands handing them their first defeat as a team in 2 years. The lead changed hands a few times during the match with a single conversion the only difference between the sides in the end.
Final Score : 26 - 24, Tries by Legs (2), Machine & Mr T, MotM : Bullet Pedley
With a successful start to the season it is a good opportunity to appreciate all the hard work that goes into running the Joondalup Brothers. In addition to the volunteer work we also rely on our sponsors who provide the finance that allows us to continue as a club, their support have also allowed us to field a side in the premier grade. If would be great if members of JBRUFC could keep this in mind when they are thinking about purchasing a product the our sponsors supply and support our sponsors where possible. In addition to that, we are currently looking for a sponsor for our juniors along with ‘club supporter’ sponsors. If anyone knows of a business looking to support the local community please contact me on 0428 742 716 or sponsorship@joondalupbrothers.com so I can follow up.

Under 12 Gold
Joondalup U12 Gold 5 Perth Bayswater 7, this was to be top of the table clash and what a battle it was the brothers had their work cut out today, as the game kicked off it was evident that the brothers had a battle on but there was something missing they were very quiet, coaches Mick and Masie recognised this and started providing constructive encouragement (@##@$) this though was a tough challenge with two equally matched teams, the brothers managed a rare break in the first half to allow Jan to score, Ethan stepped up for the conversion but it was slightly to the right, the pressure was coming from everywhere and the brothers were tackling endlessly with a high injury count as the result due to their commitment Isaak, Ryan, Ewan Ethan and Austin had to come off for treatment with the worst being Austin with a nasty split lip (4 stitches on the inside). Joondalup battled on through but the pressure was too great and Bayswater scored under the posts giving an easy conversion taking the lead by two points. Kobi was out to make a name for himself today competing against a couple of fellow state players, and did he make a name for himself with his heroic tackling to be rightfully awarded MVP. A very competitive game with the ref commenting that it was one of the toughest he had reffed!
Under 15 Gold
U15 Gold vs. Kalamunda 19 - 15
Kalamunda started really quickly and showed that they wanted to play physical and fast rugby, using their pack to try and break through right from the first whistle. The Brothers, using their D-Line structures and communication to effectively manage this early onslaught and quickly started to lift the pace playing with real intensity that Kalamunda struggled to match. Unfortunately, the lads were unable to convert some of their chances with a well worked try midway through the half the score remained tight at 5 – 3 right up to the break. The coaches half time talk centred on maintaining the positive attitude, using the structures to create opportunities and being patient.
Prior to the half time break, the Kalamunda pack seemed defeated unfortunately almost immediately in the second half Kalamunda responded and scored an early try. The brothers continued to pile on the pressure and looked like scoring on numerous occasions unfortunately rushed passes and sloppy handling let Kalamunda off the hook and they were able to ease the pressure. Mid way through the half the pressure paid off and the brothers ran in 2 tries with some quick hands, good lines and straight running. Late in the half The Brothers were camped in the opposition 22 with sustained pressure and sticking to the structures a try was inevitable but a quick defence resulted in an intercept and a couple of phases later Kalamunda were under the posts. The brothers need to take away from this that patience is as much apart of rugby as quick aggressive running rugby. The hard work was done in the first half and should have been capitalised on in the second. Heads up Associates are next.
Under 15 Swan
U15 Swan vs. UWA/Bayswater 17 - 41
The Brothers knew that this was going to be a tough game as the UWA/Bayswater team would be super keen for a win to level the results table. UWA/Bayswater started strongly and the Swan boys seemed to be slow out of the blocks and quickly found themselves struggling to keep up. This is a consistent problem for the boys and needs to change if they are to be competitive in the competition.
The boys started the second half much more strongly and soon started to rattle the UWA/Bayswater team with great intensity and improved physicality. Playing how they all know they can and employing all of the skills practiced in training soon started to pay off as the Brothers broke the defensive line and started to close the gap on the score line with some well worked tries.
Unfortunately, it was all too little – too late and the result will show a comprehensive loss for the Brothers, however the spirit showed by the lads and their commitment to each other is a positive they need to maintain for the rest of every minute of every game.
Under 17
Played two lost two for the 17s isn’t a great statistic but the stats don’t tell the whole story.
The Gold team went down 8-6 in a very close encounter against Wests. Focusing very much on new structure and patterns, Brothers controlled large parts of the first half in what was always going to be a close game. It was just rewards when we took the lead from a Josh Commins penalty.  Wests fair play stuck at it and in one of their only first half trips into our half and following some poor clearance work they scored wide out to make it 5-3.
The second half saw more of the same, Brothers continued to dominate up front and got over the line twice only to have their efforts disallowed, one of which was a certain try. Josh struck another penalty to put us ahead and we remained in control. Playing three minutes overtime, the ref then awarded Wests a penalty for offside and with the very last kick of the game, Wests won 8-6.
It was obviously gutting for the team to lose like that having dominated so much but you learn more from a loss than a win. Our new structures worked well and the boys remained committed to their patterns and but for some dubious decisions, the game would have been won.

Swan started badly against a very strong Southern Lions and through poor defence conceded three early tries to trail 22-0 at HT. Committing to structure and defence, we came back strongly and slowly started to dominate and it was just rewards when MOM Will Green, playing in an unfamiliar role at 9, shot through a gap to score untouched. This spurred the Brothers on and following an excellent break from Zac
Oostheuizen, he found hooker Jack Grimley in support and Jack scored a fantastic try. The conversion made it 22-14 and the Brothers were well on top and kept plugging away but sadly we ran out of time. This was an amazing second half effort and turn around with no points conceded and with a better start, a win for sure.
Both teams are heading in the right place for sure, onwards and upward boys. .
