Saskatchewan Craft Council Announces Dimensions Fine Craft Awards

On Friday, June 19 at 7 pm at the Mackenzie Art Gallery in Regina, the Saskatchewan Craft Council celebrated its 40th Anniversary and Craft Year 2015 by revealing the winners of the 31st Dimensions â€“ a biennial open, juried and touring exhibition of Fine Craft. The thirteen Fine Craft Award winners are:
Winner of the Premier's Prize for the Outstanding Entry is Cathryn Miller. Her evocative papercut and stitched piece "In Winter" combines the countour lines and water courses of a map of Cloverdale, North Yorkshire. The grid patterns evoke the local stone-walled fields, barns, and houses. The piece is both a map and a shawl. "In Winter" is a reflection of Miller's evolution from geological draughtsman, geolocial technician; a designer, cutter and seamstress in professional theatre; a self-taught weaver; and most recently an established paper and book artist. We congratulate Miller on her third Premier's Prize!

Sandra Ledingham's thoughtful "so he said, 'does our earth really need more objects?'" won the Jane Turnbull Evans Award for Innovation in Craft. Integrating a 3D printed "virus" into her ceramic sculpture, Ledingham contemplates the significance of her work in peoples' lives and the value of the hand-made object.
