BRAIN FOOD

Through The Wall is an uplifting memoir of resilience and strength from ex-Premier of Queensland, Anna Bligh.

Anna Bligh knows something about hard knocks and high walls. She spent over 17 years in the rough and tumble of the Queensland Parliament and she was the first woman to be elected Premier of an Australian State. Anna reflects candidly - as a wife, mother, daughter, friend and political leader - on the lessons of leadership, resilience, community and family. This is an inspiring, unflinching and engaging memoir about breaking through walls and overcoming obstacles,

YOU ARE INVITED TO

The Bright Spark Event
Friday 17 July, 2015

The inaugural Bright Spark Event is a celebration of inspiring, passionate and dedicated women.
The Awards
Women’s Legal Services NSW has launched the annual Bright Spark Awards designed to acknowledge and appreciate the achievements of
our colleagues in the community sector who have done so much to defend our services and support women’s rights! Nominations are still open so now is your chance to give someone the recognition they deserve.

The Raffle
The event includes a fundraising raffle and we have gathered a wonderful selection of winter-warming prizes for you to win. If we can raise just $5,000 we can employ an Aboriginal community access worker to support indigenous women who have been sexually assaulted in accessing culturally safe services. We need to sell 550 raffle tickets in order to contribute $2,000 towards this campaign.
The Party
Don’t miss this cocktail party
with live music, the Bright Spark Awards presentation and the draw of our fundraising raffle.
Where: Gilbert and Tobin, 2 Park Street, Sydney CBD
When: Friday 17 July 2015, 5.30 - 8pm

This event is FREE so we request that you
purchase raffle tickets on arrival.

Please RSVP to attend the party

Technology and Domestic Violence

DV Disclosure Scheme:
On line and mobile means of communication, observation and record keeping continue to bring up new challenges for the work we do and in personal relationships. Some recent developments that we have considered include the 'Clare's Law' initiative - a proposal that you can check out the police record of your new partner to see if he has prior form in domestic violence. Maybe more access to information is a good thing, empowering women. Or perhaps its a bit of feel good paperwork that is no substitute for actual safety services.

Video Evidence for DV Victims:
From 1 July, police attending a domestic violence incident can make a video at the scene and use it as evidence in court. This potentially will be much more compelling and effective than reading a written statement. But it might also add to the trauma experienced by the victim if not handled sensitively.

You can also read our recent article in the Law Society Journal on these, and other technology issues. And read the report of our forum on technology-facilitated stalking and abuse
