Summer God Stories

Sundays through August 16th!

We all have a story to tell.  God is living in us and working through us.  Each of us has a story developing.  Are you aware of it? Do you recognize God’s Story playing out in your life?

We hope that this summer we will hear from everyone as people tell their God story.  In doing so, others will recognize that God is also working in them and have a story to tell.  It may be a dramatic life change - or it may be a small step of seeing God at the grocery story.  But by us telling our stories, we can glorify God and encourage each other to recognize God's hand in our lives - moving us to tell God’s Story.

JUNE 28—God Moment Sunday; Share a transforming God moment!
JULY 5—Gift of Freedom/Military Sunday; “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”  John 8:32

Living Springs Summer Music Moments in Faith

Has there been some moment in your journey of faith and life when the Spirit has used music to uplift, strengthen, or speak to you?   Something from camp or youth group or a traditional worship time or the Christian music world?
During our summer worship services, we will have a series of Music Moments in Faith for disciples to share such experiences.   We are not asking folks to sing or perform (although you possibly could share an excerpt or verse) - but rather offer a brief “temple talk time” to share your faith music experience.   Depending on the nature of the piece, it may be possible to perform or play a small recorded excerpt or display words of a verse for everyone.  The Music Moment in Faith should be no longer than 3 minutes.  While God does work through all types of music, we are particularly focusing here on various forms of music of faith (not secular pieces).

If interested in sharing a Faith Music Moment, please contact Worship Chairperson, Jim Zieche, along with a description of your Faith Music Moment.   Everything will need to coordinated and prepared ahead of time.   We plan to schedule Faith Music Moments for the entire summer, concluding with Rally Day on August 23 (with the exception of Youth Gathering Sunday on July 19, which will already have its own many Music Moments!).

May the Spirit continue to inspire our journeys of faith with God’s gift of music, in all its amazing variety!

Summer Membership Sessions

Our next set of membership sessions will be offered on July 12 & 26 - with families, couples, and individuals preparing for our Summer Membership Recognition Sunday.  If interested – or if you want to learn more about all God is doing here – please contact Pastor Eric (917-2749) or Tina Molineu tpmolineu@gmail.com.

TELS (Traveling Evangels of Living Springs)

Thursday, June 25

The trip to Brookgreen Gardens will be rescheduled for April next year.  Our June 25, 2015 trip will be to Carter and Holmes Orchids in Newberry.  The bus will leave Living Springs at 9 am – the cost is $11 which includes transportation and everyone on the tour will receive a $6 coupon towards the purchase of an orchid. In July (14-15), we will be traveling to Old Salem, NC and it will be an overnight trip. For details, contact Beverly Hoppert.

Men’s Breakfast

Saturday, June 27

We continue to form our Lutheran Men’s circle of prayer where each man is praying for a brother in Christ. Next breakfast gathering will be Saturday, June 27th at 8:00 am at Living Springs. Meal is being served by Laura Cunningham, LS Food Resource Person.  $7.00 per person. We will be discussing our upcoming events. We meet on the last Saturday of each month.  Contact Bob Turnmire at 803-513-7533.

SUMMER FOOD DISTRIBUTION MINISTRY?

We have had many LS folks ask about our backpack school children and what happens for them over the summer. Our Hope Ministry Team is exploring the option of being a summer food distribution site for backpack and other at-need children.  Prepared food is provided through a school system grant program—and we just need volunteers to be present for the food to be picked up at possibly breakfast OR lunch.  Before proceeding, we need to find out how many folks would have interest in helping.  If you have a Spirit-tug for such a life-giving ministry, a sign-up clipboard is in the narthex—or see Karen Kranz.

Attention Cross Stitchers

Every infant baptized at Living Springs receives a blanket with 4 cross stitched symbols ( bible, shell, cross, butterfly). Kits, containing all the supplies needed to cross stitch these symbols, are available in the Workroom. Pick one up if you would like to help make these very simple squares. Return the completed kit to the Workroom. If you have any questions contact Becky Sides at beckysides@earthlink.net .

Janet Bate welcomes prayers and support for her grandson, Doug, and his wife Tessa

Now in the sixth month of pregnancy, tests have shown that their unborn daughter Andi-Kate has a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). This is a rare condition where the liver is herniated into the chest. Once born, Andi-Kate will be immediately hooked-up to life support; and once stable, she will undergo major surgery to rearrange her organs (her liver sits on top of one of her lungs, which has now collapsed and her heart has shifted). With follow-up procedures, she could potentially be hospitalized for a year.  Doug &Tessa along with their 1 year old left this past weekend to move to Philadelphia, which has 1 of 2 hospitals that can perform operations for such a severe case.  A GoFundMe account (www.gofundme.com/andikate) has been set up by the family for anyone who would like to make a donation.  For more information, you may contact Janet or go to the site link.  We hold the entire family in our prayers!

Thanks, LS Youth Shareholders!

What a tremendous response of love!  In only a few weeks, we reached our goal of 500+ shares for our new company “D2, LLC,” to support our youth attending the ELCA National Youth Gathering this summer in Detroit!   The title stands for Detroit Disciples, Lutherans Loving Community.  We are so blessed to have a generous group of LS disciples who support our young people.
Funds will be used to help cover the cost of food, travel, lodging, and servant projects.  Shareholders will receive updates from our youth – and be invited to attend a Shareholders Banquet after the gathering.  If you would still like to become a shareholder, forms are available in the narthex – or see any of our participants:  Sara Levitt, Andrew Levitt, Laura Stuart, Jack Arnold, Dylan Horan, Patrick Lay, Laura Dunklin, Wes Levitt, Shirley Laingen.  Pastor Eric is also attending as our SC Synod Proclaim Story Day coordinator.  Please keep our Living Springs Detroit Disciples in your prayers as they continue to prepare for this awesome faith-enriching experience!

Lessons for Sunday, June 28

First Reading: Lamentations 3:22–33

The book of Lamentations is one of our most important sources of information about the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians in 587 B.C. Though the people admit that God's judgment was just, today's reading declares a fervent trust that God will not leave them forever.

Psalm (ELW): Psalm 30

I will exalt you, O LORD, because you have lifted me up. (Ps. 30:1)

Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 8:7–15

Paul encourages the Corinthians to honor their commitment to participate in the collection his churches are organizing for the Christians in Jerusalem. He presents Jesus as an example of selfless stewardship and reminds them that Christians have received abundantly so that they can share abundantly.

Gospel: Mark 5:21–43

Jairus, a respected leader, begs Jesus to heal his daughter. A woman with a hemorrhage is ritually unclean, treated as an outcast in Jewish society. Both Jairus and the unnamed woman come to Jesus in faith, believing in his power to heal and bring life out of death.
