In the lead-up to COP 21, which will be taking place in December 2015 in Paris, all Parties to UNFCCC are requested to submit their Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs). Specifically and publicly stating what kind of contributions each country intends to make towards reducing GHG emissions in order to achieve the 2 degree Celcius target, INDCs are the most important element of the Paris climate agreement.

In order to help ensure that as many countries as possible can come to the table with a strong commitment and ambitious contributions, UNEP DTU Partnership (UDP), as part of a UNEP/GEF project, is providing technical support to 32 developing countries, helping them with data collection, projections and analysis to prepare their INDCs. ADMIRE - Turning ideas into instruments that attract private investment
Dedicated to “Adaptation, Mitigation, and Readiness,” ADMIRE focuses on developing frameworks and mechanisms that encourage private investment in both mitigation and adaptation actions. Unlike other programs with similar goals, ADMIRE’s aims to develop viable ideas into NAMAs and actions to support NAPs and adaptation activities, transforming them into financially sustainable and implementable opportunities which are expected to continue after the lifetime of the project. Click to read examples of ideas that have been developed into NAMA development projects and adaptation actions through ADMIRE.

NAMAcademy—sharpening the focus on NAMA development
Demand is increasing for courses at UNEP DTU’s NAMAcademy, a unique training program based at UN City in Copenhagen. Launched in 2012, the program offers six-day intensive courses and private coaching to public officials and other project developers gearing up for NAMA registration. Aiming to enhance public officials’ capacity to develop NAMAs, NAMAcademy courses include both a general introduction to concepts and models, as well as practical training in NAMA design with step-by-step instructions and tools. The program’s reputation is growing: while previous years saw only one annual course, NAMAcademy has already organized two in 2015, and more are in the works for 2016. C2E2 contributes to Renewables 2015 Global Status Report
For the first time, the recently released Renewables 2015 Global Status Report (GSR) by REN21 includes a chapter on Energy Efficiency and its potential synergies with renewable energy. Prepared by the Copenhagen Centre on Energy efficiency, the chapter ‘Energy Efficiency: Renewable Energy Twin Pillar’ provides a concise overview of energy efficiency status across sectors: buildings and appliances, transport and industry. The chapter discusses important policy advancements, which took place between 2013 and 2014. Although these two areas are still often separated in policy agendas, several examples, which are exploiting synergies between the two are given in the report. Read more.

New publication
Perspectives 2015:  Transformational Change for Low Carbon and Sustainable Development seeks to contribute to the understanding of how transformational change towards low-carbon development has already taken place or is being planned in five developed and developing countries. Informed by theories of sustainability transitions, country experts from Brazil, Colombia, Denmark, Germany, and South Africa reflect on the dynamics and challenges of processes of transformational change in the sub-sectors of wind power, renewable energy, deforestation, transport and state-owned companies. Access the publication here.
New Research
Researchers from UNEP DTU Partnership have contributed to a special issue of the journal Climatic Change on 'Governance, enabling frameworks and policies for the transfer and diffusion of low carbon and climate adaptation technologies in developing countries' .

Focusing on Technology Transfer, the issue contains several paper contributions from UDP researchers James Haselip, Ulrich Elmer Hansen, Daniel Puig, Sara Trærup, and Subash Dhar. Access the publication here.
