It's finally summer here in the U.S.! With longer days, things are a little more relaxed, bbqs are routine, and we're enjoying being outside more. Whatever the season where you are, here's to keeping that sewing mojo alive and well!

WORTH A READ

ON TREND

The quarter log cabin block is one I'm seeing alot lately, and it always reminds me of the first one that really made me stop and look, this beauty by Heather/ Heather Jones Studio. I first saw it on her former blog, and it was like nothing I'd ever seen before! Lucky us, Heather has a new pattern using a variation of this block, Half Way Home. She tells about the making of the quilt here, and the pattern is available on the Robert Kaufman site. [heatherjonesstudio]

Corey/Little Miss Shabby uses a fun twist on the traditional log cabin block for her Mod Cabin Quilt. [lmshabby]

Jolene/blue elephant stitches created her Quarter Log Cabin Quilt with bright and beautiful prints!

Here's yet another layout by Darcy/ModernCozy with her Fractured Mini using her Quartered Block Tutorial for the 5.5" blocks. [darcychildress]
Yvonne/Quilting Jet Girl also provides a tutorial for her Quarter Log Cabin Mini Quilt. Each square quarter log cabin block in this tutorial finishes at 7.5", with the mini quilt finishing at 28.5". [quiltingjetgirl]

Look close at Jules/ Procrasticraft's wonky, scrappy log cabin quilt. What a delightful mix of solids and stripes, machine and hand quilting. [procrasticraft]

Susan/Chickenfoot is still making her quarter log cabin blocks, but I love how she's adding contrasting bits in her strips. [chickenfoot_susansobon]

And finally, here's another w.i.p. from Ellen/[erushman], who is creating a distinctive look using the Kinship Quilt pattern by Domestic Strata.

A GLANCE BACK

Sara/Sew Sweetness has a new weekly feature on Instagram, the #sewcialchallenge. Last Friday, we were asked to post our favorite pouch that we had made. I didn't have to think long! It'll probably always be the Triple-Zip Pouch, a tutorial I shared nearly 3 years ago, but still gets the most hits on my blog every single day. Go figure. [sewsweetness]

P.S. What new quilt or block pattern are you itching to try? For me, it's Wooden Spoon Quilts' Sugar Loaf block!
