SAM'S CENTS
A Gas Station for Love

I was lying in bed with my older daughter, Ella, the night before sleepaway camp. She expressed concern about being responsible for her younger sister, Ruby, who would be away from home for the first time.
I told her that she didn’t need to spend every moment with Ruby but instead she should think of herself as a gas station for love. When she saw Ruby
at camp, she could give her a hug and fuel her with love so that she could feel more confident and go out and make friends.

I like this metaphor for us as parents and family members too. We are fueling each other with love at home so that we enter the world more secure and confident.
