As a part of the implementation of living longer living better approach, AMCS is introducing IPad training for our consumers. Our first initiative with our carers respite group was a success.
‘Fun with iPads’ sessions as our consumers are calling it, has proved to be an interesting experience for the participants. Some have actually purchased their own and found it enhanced their relationship with their grandchildren who are spending time with them now wanting to assist them in learning more about iPads. The participants enjoyed memory games and staying in touch with their family overseas via various applications. An interesting observation was that participants were interested in researching regarding their prescription medication or to obtain information about diseases that affect them or their loved ones. It was all round positive experience and AMCS encourages any interest from our consumers wanting to learn about iPad.

The Australian Government assist older people to live at their home and continue to be independent.
The government funds these services through the Home Care Packages, the packages are delivered through providers such as AMCS.  Part of the aged care reform is a new service model called Consumer Directed Care (CDC).
AMCS has been a leader in implementing the CDC model.  Our consumers are in the driver’s seat, empowered to utilise the package to achieve their goals in living safe and independent in their home. Consumers and their carers have greater involvement in decision-making regarding the services they receive, how these will be delivered and how funds are allocated.  AMCS is looking forward to continue working in partnership with our consumers and their carers to achieve their goals.
  • Keep hydrated – drink 6-8 glasses of water a day
  • Watch your kilojoules – choose food high in nutrients and low in saturated fat, salt and sugar

  • Watch your sweet tooth – use nutmeg or cinnamon to add flavour instead of sugar
  • Get enough fibre – Reduce constipation by eating oatmeal, oat bran, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds
  • Don’t forget your calcium –to avoid risk of osteoporosis and fractures fill up on dairy products, fish with soft edible bones, green vegetables, dried figs and almonds
  • Vitamin D – To maintain strong bones, when there is no sun exposure, take a Vitamin D supplement
  • Limit alcohol – More than 2 drinks per day can lead to higher risk of breast, bowel or liver cancer

AMCS remembers and honours the late Janina Wojcik

Janina was born in Poland in 1920 and endured extreme hardship when she was taken by force to work as slave labour in Germany in 1939.  After suffering the strains of war, Janina and her husband were among the first wave of Displaced Persons to arrive in Australia in 1947, where they were able to integrate and make important contributions to Australian society.
After her husband’s passing, and with her own failing health, it was Janina’s biggest wish to be able to stay in her own home.  Janina and her AMCS care advisor worked together on a care plan to ensure Janina continues to live at home feeling independent, safe and supported. In a final act of kindness, Janina left a very generous gift in her Will to AMCS as a thank you for providing her with ongoing care and ensuring that she received the best possible support in her own home.  Through her generosity, Janina’s legacy will continue to live on for generations to come and ensure that many others like her will receive the care they deserve.  AMCS is eternally grateful to Janina for her gift from the heart.
