Artistic Director Marie-Josée Chartier will be very busy this summer as a performer, choreographer, director and teacher. With a myriad of activities in collaboration with incredible artists she will travel to Kitchener, Ottawa, Montreal, Joliette, Laval, Valleyfield, Peterborough, London, Hamilton, Pickering, Toronto and Winnipeg. Please find below all the details about the events and their performance schedules.
Marie-Josée Chartier will be part of the new music festival between the ears taking place at various venues in Kitchener.

On June 21st, Chartier will kick off the evening of soundgliding at the intimate Registry Theatre with gimme my shoes a short energetic solo to John Oswald’s plunderphonic piece black. And for the first time since its creation, study for a crouching figure / étude pour silhouette accroupie will be performed to live music, Echo and Narcissus by Rodney Sharman. This work created for the extraordinary Benoit Lachambre premiered in Toronto in 1994 and toured in Canada and Europe; it was remounted in 2014 with the amazing Brendan Wyatt for the Francis Bacon exhibition at the AGO. Marie-Josée Chartier returns as Commandant Klack in A Flock of Flyers: remix / Escadron Volant: remix performing in several summer festivals in Ontario and Québec (Jouer Dehors).

Photuris Versicolor will premiere in Peterborough as part of Dusk Dances on tour. This duet created and performed by Sylvie Bouchard and Marie-Josée Chartier is inspired by femmes fatales fireflies!

Marie-Josée continues her ongoing collaboration with two extraordinary music groups: the Gryphon Trio and l’Ensemble Contemporain de Montréal. She coordinated the staging of the multi-media production Illusions and choreographed the amazing baritone Vincent Ranallo in Wanmansho by Gabriel Dharmoo.

On a program of several new works, Illusions premiered in Montréal and was part of the 21C festival at the Koerner Hall in Toronto. On July 23rd, Illusions will be part of the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival.

In early September, Marie-Josée will continue her choreographic research for petites danses: the cornucopia version of 8 new short works that will premiere in the fall of 2016 at the Market Hall theatre in Peterborough presented by Public Energy followed by Canadian touring in 2017. In June, she added the finishing touches to the Trio with Darryl Tracy, Juan Villegas and Lucy Rupert (on the photo).

With the support of multiple residencies in 2014, and a long term grant from the Toronto Arts Council, the creation continues in September with a week at the Market Hall involving performers from Toronto and Peterborough.

During the week of September 14, Marie-Josée will return to Winnipeg at the School of Contemporary Dancers for an intensive week of teaching voice exploration.

She has been visiting the school regularly since 2011 and is thrilled to go back and work in this wonderful environment.
