A picture from the past

It was recently Stony Plain‬ Farmer's Days, here's a photo of the parade circa 1946. (Fun fact for many years Cornelia Railey Wood would lead the parade on her horse, that's her in the front.)
What was the name of her horse? Send us an
email and we will list everyone who knew in next month's newsletter.

FARM SCHOOL
Connecting Food on our Tables to Local Farmers and Suppliers

The Multicultural Heritage Centre’s first Inquiring Minds site, Farm School was a resounding success. Our Farm School is an opportunity for teachers to move their classroom into the world of agriculture, where students spend an entire week connecting food on their tables to our local farmers and suppliers – literally from farm to fork.

Farm School is where inquiry based learning methods promote real-world connections to the Alberta curriculum. Students explore using hands-on activities, interviews with experts “in the field”, and make those learning connections by discussing and then journaling about their experiences.

What is better than to have students mingle with dairy cows, explore the importance of manure, talk potatoes with our farmer, and smell the “fresh” country air?

Farm School was funded by the
Vital Signs grant offered by the Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF)

Artist Bio: Igor Woroniuk was born in Chernovtsy, Ukraine and studied classical painting at the Chernovtsy School of Fine Arts until 1987 when, at the age of 14, his family moved to Canada and landed in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

After completing high school in Canada, Igor chose the Fine Arts program at the University of Manitoba to study painting and drawing. This degree led Igor to his next endeavour, studying graphic design and illustration at Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta.

When he's not painting, Igor teaches drawing, design and illustration at Grant MacEwan University.

Igor’s work has been featured at exhibits in public art galleries, juried group exhibits, charitable auctions, and additionally, he has completed numerous commission pieces for a range of clients featuring a variety of landscapes from Tuscany to the Yukon.
