A Message From Kathy...

How quickly the year is going ! I can't believe we are half way through already.
Winter is never my favourite time of year, but it is a good time to think about skin treatments as we can cover up and avoid the sun. We have some great promotions for all IPL treatments this month.

We are back to the full team again for the rest of the year. First Julie-Anne, then myself and most recently, Carmen have all had holidays. This month, I have written an article dispelling some of the myths around cosmetic injectable treatments. We are so lucky to have these tools at our disposal.

See you soon at Shine!

Kathy.

Dispelling the Myths around
Cosmetic Injections

We are fortunate to live in an age where we have so many options when it comes to improving our appearance. Women have been using various tools for thousands of years to look their best. We think nothing of putting on makeup or seeing the hairdresser. But today it is possible to make real changes to the quality of our skin and the way the face ages.

Cosmetic injections have given us the ability to reduce facial lines and wrinkles as well as restore volume loss and " lift" sagging skin. But for some, the thought of cosmetic injections brings fear and trepidation. Most of this fear originates from stories in the media or lack of knowledge about what is involved with the treatments. I would like to dispel some of these myths about these very safe and popular cosmetic injectable treatments.

Myth # 1
Cosmetic injections are unsafe - False!
There are two main classes of cosmetic injections - anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers. Anti-wrinkle injections have been available for over 25 years, have been used in many fields of medicine and are one of the most widely researched medicines in the world. There is a very long safety record here.

All
dermal fillers used at Shine are made of hyaluronic acid. This is a substance found naturally in the skin. It will be broken down slowly by enzymes in the skin. In the unlikely event there is a problem with the treatment, the hyaluronic acid filler can be "dissolved " away using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. In the hands of an experienced cosmetic physician, both dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections can be used safely to give very natural results.

Myth # 2

The results of Cosmetic Injections look fake and unnatural - False!
Unfortunately, we have all seen individuals who have had too much filler or muscle relaxing injections. These people look wrong and expressionless. The media sensationalises these stories. However, we don't hear stories about women who have had excellent and natural cosmetic injections. Because no one knows! This doesn't make the news. It is essential to see an experienced cosmetic physician to perform your treatment. Your final result is as much about the skill and experience of the injector as it is about the quality of the product. All cosmetic injections need to be prescribed by a doctor by law. It's your face - don't take risks!

Myth # 3
Cosmetic Injections are extremely painful - False!
All
dermal fillers used at Shine are combined with a local anaesthetic. This minimises discomfort tremendously. We can also apply a local anaesthetic cream and/or ice to the skin before the treatment to reduce pain further. Most people rate the pain as a 2-3 on a scale of 1-10.

Myth # 4

Cosmetic Injections require downtime and time off work - False!
Anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers are both truly lunchtime procedures. Most treatments using cosmetic injections take between 10 and 30 minutes to complete. There can occasionally be some minor bruising that can be covered with a concealer. After the treatment, we can apply some mineral makeup and the client walks out looking great. The only exception here is with lip filler. This area is more likely to bruise and swell after a treatment. It may take a day or two for this to settle.

We are fortunate to live in a world where we can consider so many options when it comes to improving our appearance. In the past 10 years,
cosmetic injections have become quite mainstream treatments, embraced by people of all walks of life. When the best quality products are used by a skilled and experienced cosmetic physician, we see the best outcomes - a natural, refreshed appearance with minimal discomfort and downtime.

The image below demonstrates a before and after of a
Shine Clinic client who has had both dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections for natural looking rejuvenation.
