Anatomy of a Self-Publisher Summer

Alright, so the past two months have been crazy bananas with travel and events, starting with Free Comic Book Day in May and closing out June with the ALA Annual Conference...

Being that busy has been very interesting real-world proof that promoting an existing book on one's own makes it nearly impossible to work on the next book on one's own.

But I'm happy to say the ridiculous travel schedule has eased...and a story element I was wrestling with has been sorted, so it's looking like I'll be able to make some nice progress on PIX book two - aka get some real work done - while you all enjoy the summer.* At least that's the plan, and I'd like to think saying it out loud will make me accountable not just to myself, but to any of you waiting for more Pix. Just as soon as I recover from ALA, from which I've only just returned less than eight hours or so ago when you get this.

As a special treat, and again, a way to put myself in the hot seat, the image above are my initial notes and some sketches for the next Pix book...or what will be the next Pix book.

*It won't be an all-work summer, though, as I'm looking to embark on my "Summer of Salsas" as well, taking advantage of the tomatoes and stone fruit and melon whatever else, and making salsas that might make for good chip dippin' or seafood accompanyin'. Anyone have ideas or suggestions, feel free to share.

(more) PIX Stuff!

I had the pleasure of showing PIX: ONE WEIRDEST WEEKEND (and the Pix v. Jabberwock print to the left - coming soon to the Pix online store) to the library world, and the great bevy of librarians interested and/or supportive of having comics and graphic novels in their collections, this past weekend at ALA. It's pretty terrific to have that kind of direct communication with the folks who really are the new/modern front line in getting comics in front of younger readers. Thanks to all who stopped by, picked up a copy of Pix, the first chapter preview, the print, and/or signed up for this very newsletter!

Want a signed copy of Pix? Go to pixcomic.com/store and enter the code July15 at checkout to get 15% off your order of the paperback, digital, or paperback/digital combo. This code expires at the end of the month.

On This Month's
STUFF SAID

July 4th marks four years since the launch of STUFF SAID, and as I've done in years past, I'm releasing a special solo episode to commemorate the show's anniversary. The episode contains an important announcement about the show, so be sure to check it out, again, on July 4th at StuffSaidShow.com, or by searching "Stuff Said" in iTunes or the podcast app of your choice.
