  • Arthur Banton:
Congratulations on accepting a Dissertation Research Fellowship in the Department of History at Middle Tennessee State University.

  • Kera Lovell:
    Congratulations Kera on winning the
2015 Danky Fellow for the Madison Historical Society.

  • Postdoctoral Fellow:
American Studies will have a postdoctoral fellow in residence next academic year.
Mel Stanfill comes to us from the University of Illinois with a Ph.D. from the Institute of Communication Research.  Mel’s work connects with many of the interests of faculty and students.  It will be exciting to have someone in American Studies whose work traverses critical media/digital studies, popular culture, queer studies, and race.
Mel will teach a graduate seminar entitled “Queering Popular Culture” in the fall.  I am sure it will be a great course, it is up an available for registration.  If you have a moment please drop Mel a note of welcome (
    mstanfill@gmail.com).
In an effort to better highlight and celebrate the wonderful work by American Studies students, faculty, and alumni we are launching Last Friday, a monthly newsletter for our program.

As the name suggests, the newsletter will go out on the last Friday of each month during the academic year, an apt moment to reflect on the events of the past month and signal the activities in upcoming weeks.
