Forward to a Friend

Which Path Will You Take?

Feeling disappointed, disillusioned, angry, resentful, regretful? Welcome to a very non-exclusive club!

But ask yourself, do you want to be a lifetime member? Or would you prefer to belong just long enough to figure out a way to approach the inevitable situations which trigger these feelings in a way that you can actually derive any potential benefits they may offer and then move on?

Here are some Tweaking Tips to help:
  1. As we’ve covered many times before, first acknowledge your emotions and honor them. Trust they exist for a reason and that it is OK to have them.
  2. Next, really own them and pay attention to what they are telling you about your life, the way you move through the day, the path leading to this uncomfortable destination, and the options available to help end the suffering, which depend on the choices you make going forward. Which paths present themselves as possibilities?
  3. Take the time to make a list of the lessons to be learned. Save the list and begin to compile them as situations arise. Over time and with open-minded reflection, you may detect a recurring theme or pattern of behavior of which you were unaware.
  4. Consider a way to help release the emotions and set them free.  This may mean some form of physical activity, screaming, crying, reaching out to family or friends, listening to music, pulling the covers over your head, writing in a journal, or sitting silently and just being with your feelings. Explore the actions or combination of actions that work for you but don’t negatively impact others or cause you to harm yourself.
  5. Accept that many things happen for a reason, though we may not be able to see it that day, month, or year.  Accept that there may indeed be a reason but we may never know what it is. And…accept that sometimes bad things happen to good people for no reason at all.
  6. Finally, make a conscious decision about your next steps and take actions you believe will help you get to where you want to be next. (Sometimes that decision will be to take more time before you make any more decisions.) The choice about the path you take is up to you.
I'd enjoy hearing your feedback or answering any questions you might have. Email me.

All the best,
Colette
