MILESTONE PROJECTS: MASTER PLANNING + ARCHITECTURE + ENGINEERING
PALAFOX EYES MORE DEVELOPMENTS IN CEBU

Breaking ground last April of this year, the Corabes Tower is designed to be an eco-friendly residential building.
Palafox Associates will be celebrating its 26th founding anniversary this coming July 1st and, similarly, it will also be exactly a year ago since Palafox Architecture was launched to the public. As we grow another year older, Palafox is looking forward to establishing a stronghold in the province of Cebu. Its capital, Cebu City, is the second largest metropolitan area in the Philippines after Metro Manila. The city is located on the eastern shore of Cebu island. Cebu is the Philippines’ main domestic shipping port and is home to about 80% of the country’s domestic shipping companies. As one of the fastest growing cities in Asia, Cebu is a significant center of commerce, trade and industry in the region of Visayas including a booming Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector.

We are looking forward to several developments soon to rise in the locale, including Corabes Tower designed by Palafox Architecture Group. It is a five-storey community conveniently located near the Cebu Business District with residential, commercial, and office spaces. The design incorporates green principles like rainwater harvesting to provide water for irrigation and flushing. The Corabes Tower will also have green walls and louvers to minimize the impact of heat from the sun. To further encourage passive cooling and maximize natural light, the floor to ceiling height is higher at 2.7 meters than the standard 2.5 meters. It also has operable windows and sliding doors per unit.

Other projects in the pipeline include a community in Binaliw, a business park in Mandaue City, and a resort in Liloan, among others. Earlier works by Palafox Associates in Cebu includes the master plan of the University of San Carlos (Talamban Campus), as well as master planned developments by Aboitiz Land. In his previous stint with Ayala Corp., Principal Architect-Urban Planner Felino Palafox, Jr., was also part of the team behind the Cebu Business Park.

To celebrate our anniversary with our fellow Cebuanos, Palafox Associates and Palafox Architecture Group will be participating in an exhibit at the Property Expo Cebu on July 18 and 19 in Cebu Trade Hall 1, Level 4, SM City Cebu.
Established in 1569, the University of San Carlos in Cebu City is one of the first schools in the Philippines. The principles of a university town are applied in our master plan developed for this institution's Talamban Campus. The buildings are located relatively close to each other to encourage walking. The plan devotes 30 percent of the campus to commercial ventures in order to help sustain the academic activities.

OFF THE PRESS

An aerial photograph of the Pasig area has gone viral after it indicated how Metro Manila has become too crowded with houses and buildings, and how it lacked greenery and open spaces. Architect Felino Palafox Jr. told GMA News Online that the photo highlights one of the crucial problems in Metro Manila: lack of open spaces. More...

Sherlock-inspired living space gets featured in Condo Living magazine

For the June 2015 issue of Condo Living magazine, our Interior Design team took on the challenge of designing a living space based on a character of a popular television series. Locking down on Sherlock Holmes, its current adaptation depicts the main character as “the world’s only consulting detective.” The design concept banks on Sherlock’s versatility and ability to disguise and transform.

Warm colors add a cozy feel to the space, which also shows his Old English heritage. A blend of dark wood flooring and finishes, exposed brick work, and copper detailing were used. Combined with clean lines, this creates a suitable atmosphere for the mind to focus in deep thought. A large, comfortable sectional sofa not only makes a bold statement but it also serves as a ‘thinking pod’, as Sherlock spends much of his time analyzing different scenarios while lying down on the couch.

The theme of the room is very unorthodox, using patterns that create an optical illusion. This exhibits an enigmatic touch similar to the scenarios and cases that Sherlock Holmes is ever efficient in solving.  Accessories used include apothecary jars into terrarium displays filled with plants placed at the book shelves, depicting a manly approach for floral displays.

Functionality is also a main consideration for the design. An efficient work space is added, as well as hidden compartments for storing important evidence and valuable keepsakes.
