WSKG Reporters Honored By Nation's Public Radio Journalists

SPOTLIGHT

Democracy Now Preemption Explained
While many listeners appreciated the extended coverage by WSKG and NPR of last Friday's US Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage, many were also upset with our decision to preempt Democracy Now in favor of that extended coverage. Democracy Now is not broadcast live on WSKG and is recorded at 8:00am for later broadcast.  The delay allows us to air Morning Edition during that time slot.

So, last Friday, Democracy Now had been finalized well before the US Supreme Court decision was announced.  As a result, it contained no references to that ruling.  Rather than ignore what's considered by many people as the most important civil rights story since the election of President Obama, we temporarily replaced Democracy Now with NPR's Here and Now, which is a live news magazine.  I regret the inconvenience, but I believe it was the correct journalistic decision.
