A Housing Opportunity supporter like you recently asked us if she should reach out to her legislators even though she had already written them an email.

It can be tough to take action and wait weeks and weeks before we know if our efforts bore fruit.  So you may be wondering the same thing: will a second call or email make a difference?

The answer is: ABSOLUTELY!

For instance, a large group of us were listening to Rep. John Davis talk. He was recounting a time when he had to decide on how to vote on several key issues. Our legislators, like any of us, need guidance on big decisions.

In the moment of his big decision he went to his email inbox and phone log to check his messages.

He wanted to know what people in the district he represents– people who may or may not vote for him – thought about the issue.

That’s when he paused, made eye contact with the audience, and said in a serious tone: even one call or email can be enough to impact how he votes.

Imagine what two, three, or twenty calls can do!

Many, if not all, legislative offices are keeping tally sheets right now. They keep track of exactly how many calls, emails and letters they get about each issue. The bigger the number, the more they know people care.

In sports, there’s a truism that you want to leave it all on the field. You never want to look back and say: I wish I had tried harder. The legislative process is the same way.

You’ve already given your time and passion by writing a letter. Now it’s time you leave it all on the field and call your State Senator and Representative.

Your call in support of Housing Opportunity could be the one that makes up your legislators’ minds.
