ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
Alumni Spotlight: Matt Henry 2015 Alum
Wig & Makeup Technician for the Utah Shakespeare Festival
Matt studied music at Snow College where he competed in the concerto competition (piano solo), and was a member of the wind ensemble and clarinet choir. After earning a music degree, he turned to cosmetology studies but continued sharing his gift of music. He helped direct and accompany a highschool-age community performing traveling show choir and was the principal pianist for the Presbyterian Church and an organist in the LDS Church at the same time.
Matt is currently employed by the wig and makeup department for the Utah Shakespeare Festival. He will be assisting in wigs for the plays Amadeus and South Pacific and will be helping to maintain wigs for several other plays. Click here for more information about the Utah Shakespeare Festival which runs from June 25 - Oct 31, 2015 in Cedar City, UT.
What are some of your hobbies?
Some of my hobbies include piecing together quilts for Humanitarian Services, and community piano performances (I have put on several piano concerts of classical repertoire). I also enjoy going to local rest homes and playing the piano or singing for those who reside there.
How did Snow College contribute to your accomplishments?
I consider my time at Snow to have been a very refining time. If there is anything I learned at Snow, it was the ability to find success on many different levels. Success can be found in all places throughout the learning process; whether we have just started venturing into a new area of study, or whether we have become experts in our field. Snow College helped me to find a deeper confidence in my abilities as a scholar. I felt very prepared to venture out into the work field.
What is your most memorable moment at Snow College?
My most memorable moment at Snow College was being recognized as a Matrix Imagine All You Can Be scholarship video winner. It was a scholarship offered to different cosmetology students nationwide. I was able to create a YouTube video, and was one of 100 winners recognized on a national level! It was very rewarding.
What advice would you give to other Snow College students/alumni?
Success is not a destination, but a way of life. Choose to make yourself successful. Set goals that make you improve. Even if the goal is not reached, there is a great deal of learning and success in the process of working toward it.
