*Welcome to the Genesis Leeds Newsletter!*

We've had a busy couple of months here at Genesis with lots of exciting news to report on! We have a new member of staff to introduce and a new vacancy to advertise, some successful fundraising to announce and a fantastic creative project to tell you about!
We are continuously grateful to our supporters, and could not do the work that we do without you all! So thank you!
Take a look below to read about what we have been up to...

The Mosaic Project!

Following a number of preparatory workshops, the reknown craftivist/mosaic artist Carrie Reichardt  worked with the team and service users in our sex work project for an intensive two days in June to create a beautiful mosaic on one of the external walls of  the amazing Slung Low Theatre Company. This has been a successful participatory community arts project  which has built skills and confidence amongst service users, given them a visual voice and produced a beautiful mosaic in the community.  The mosaic project was led by our former Leeds University student placement Charlotte Charter. Her undergraduate dissertation  to be carried out in 2015/16 will focus on the Mosaic project.
A massive thank you to all who have contributed to the mosaic! A special thanks to Carrie who gave up much of her time on this project  voluntarily, we have been so lucky to have an artist of her calibre involved.  Also to the  Slung Low Theatre who did more than provide a wall, but provided a work space and made all involved so welcome.  They do amazing performative work and we recommend all to go see their performances. Thanks  to all those who contributed materials and of course to Charlotte who coordinated all of this! As she leaves the student placement role we wish her well in her final year of her degree and are so pleased she will be still with us as volunteer.

Funding Success!
We are very pleased to learn that we have been awarded funding from two grant giving bodies.
Lloyds Banking Foundation – Invest Program have awarded Genesis a grant over 3 years which will  contribute to funding the continued work of our Options and Support Worker in the New Futures project  in our sex work service. It will also support vital core administration and project coordination costs to enable the delivery of our frontline sex work support. The organisation funds work with people experiencing multiple disadvantage at critical points in their life.
Barbara Ward’s Children’s Foundation have awarded Genesis a small grant to contribute to funding  costs or one of our young person’s child sexual exploitation workers. This is an amazing foundation which helps smaller non-religious charities to serve severely disadvantaged children anywhere in the world where their grants are likely to make a real difference.

A Bit about New Futures...
New Futures is a Support and Options service aimed at supporting women who seek to make changes in their lives and move on from sex work. Follow this link to find out more about the work of New Futures by reading a case study of one woman who has benefited from this service.

CSE: Celebrating and Sharing Good Practice in Leeds
On September 14, Genesis Leeds and the BLAST Project will be celebrating the work of the 2 organisations over the past 15 years, sharing lessons learned and good practice in CSE interventions. The afternoon event will showcase current and past work of both organisations on CSE, including our preventative work in primary and secondary schools, our 1 to 1 work (including a new service offered to women who experienced CSE when they were younger) and the resources developed  to support these services such as the DVDs Sick Party,  Is it Normal and Think Again. Our ex-service users  group the Lionesses will also be speaking about their involvement with our young people’s work and both organisations will be speaking about new directions in CSE Training. The event is free but you need to register (please note people who do not attend on the without giving 5 working days will be charged £20 to cover administration costs). We look forward to seeing you there!

Introducing Devin!

We are very excited to have a new Young Persons worker join the ISIS team.
"I'm from Upstate New York, USA, and have been living in Leeds for nearly 3 years. I first came to Leeds in 2012 on an exchange with Leeds Met University with the Youth and Community Department.  After finishing my bachelors degree in NY, I returned to Leeds for my youth work JNC qualification and Masters in Youth Studies. I'm beyond pleased to announce that I've just completed my MA on what young women, not identified at particular risk, understand about CSE. During my time in Leeds I've worked for the Youth Service, as well as most recently coming from sessional work at Getaway Girls. I'm particularly passionate about supporting girls and young women, and look forward to having a new challenge and opportunity to work for ISIS!"
