Our thoughts are with the Berryman family with the passing of Norm Berryman this week. Many Brothers players and supporters will know Norm. He was a well known rugby identity around Perth where he and his family have been for many years. “Stormin” Norman Berryman, as many supporters knew him, played club Rugby in Perth. Norm represented New Zealand Maori across an 11-year span, won 3 Super Rugby titles with the Crusaders and also represented the Chiefs and Blues. Norm Debut for The All Blacks against South Africa in 1998.
The Joondalup Brothers Family passes on our condolences to the Berryman family.

Under 6 White vs Under 6 Blue
When a unstoppable force meets a unmovable object was the scene on Saturday as these 2 Titan teams battled it out for rugby supremacy in my opinion was rugby WA s game of the season both teams put in a superb effort with tries coming in from every direction and defence the Western Force would of been scared of. But in the end was a 24 all draw. Parents and spectators from OTHER!!! teams were impressed with the calibre and level the boys played. Special mention goes to Dean Skroza who's well calculated runs an defense made him a stand out player an man of the match well done Dean. Thanks to the club our manager Sam, coach Derrick and Alby and also the parents.
Under 9 Blue
What a game!!! These young Blues players amaze me every time they take the field and Saturday was no exception. Speaking for both coaches, we feel very proud to see how the boys are developing.
Saturday's match was well contested with the Forward Players and the Backs working hard for every try we scored. We had Charlie, Harrison, Alex, JD, Tom and Mark doing the hard work at the front. Rucking, mauling and stealing balls, bulldozing their way forward. While Fraser, ED, Jackson and Luke at the back were carving up the paddock making some crunching tackles. We only fell short with one try. Congratulations to Luke Dunstan who was our Man of the Match on Saturday. Well done to all the boys!
Under 9 White
This week the lads from U9s White played a hard fought game in wet and slippery conditions against Bayswater Black at their home ground, Pat O’Hara Reserve. It was a game where the forwards laid a solid foundation allowing the backs to get the ball out wide with open pasture in front of them.
In those trying conditions defence was the key to them winning and the boys from Brothers did not let the spectators down, pulling off some solid hits in the middle and some spectacular try saving tackles on their own line. A memorable mention goes out to Teanu Gerber for his scoring two tries and also playing a hand in two others, but the as mentioned Defence was the key to their win and as a result of some hard hitting tackles and formidable presence in the ruck, the Player of the Match award went to one of the pillars in the front row, Joshua Campbell.
Under 10 Black
A good close win for the boys this weekend playing for the first time at our home ground. The boys faced the Joondalup White team in a game that was still seeing tries scored in the dying minutes of the second half.
The first half saw the boys spacing well and great passing along the back line. Noah made two big runs palming off several defenders but not quite managing to get over the line. However, with the ball in our half, Bryce was able to score from the scrum. This was then converted. Strong rucks and scrums ensured our boys were dominating the attack throughout the half, with Tommy scoring down the wing, Christian under the posts and Noah from a penalty. A great try saving tackle by Robert held the opposition to just one try to our four at the break.
The second half saw the White team come out firing and several of our boys go down hurt, including Connor needing some quick dentistry work for his broken braces. Although our passing and spacing wasn’t as good in this half, the boys managed to hold the opposition to two tries despite the ball being down their end for most of the time. This was mostly due to our stronger tackling this week. Robert sustained a nasty knock to his knee in the last minute of the game in a textbook tackle that earnt him play of the day. Noah earnt player of the match with a good all round game.
Under 11 Gold
Our U11 Golds put on their most impressive performance of the season with a big win against Kalamunda this weekend. The team dominated all aspects of play against a bigger pack and proved just too classy for the opposition. Forwards and backs combined in well drilled fashion running in 13 unanswered tries.
Final Score : 81 - 0
Tries by: Keag's, Legs (2), Machine (2), Mr T (2), Beast, Smiley, Blitz (2), Slick & Sparky
MotM : Beast Hickey
The U15’s took full advantage of a visit from Western Force Hooker – Heath Tessman to Tuesday’s training session, who took time to meet all of the boys, assisted with the warm up, before taking the forwards away for some focussed scrummage drills. It was a fantastic opportunity for the boys to learn and ask questions, which they all clearly enjoyed and got great value from.
A big thanks to Heath for taking the time to come and spend some time with the boys, it was really appreciated.
Under 12 Gold
Joondalup U12 Gold 54 Kalamunda 7, After the last game against Kalamunda the brothers were ready for this battle knowing the strength of the Kalamunda side the brothers knew up front they had to be strong, as the game kicked off it was going to be a fast game in all aspects, although young Ryan McGloin slipped through from a good forward move to score, Kobi stepped up to convert, it wasn’t long before the captain Jak was leading by example and smashed through a few tackles and managed to score the second and calm his side, Kobi also stepped up to give a score line early of 14 – 0 to the brothers, although this was a good lead Kalamunda were not going down fighting and  managed  a great try under the posts to reduce the lead by 7 points. Although all aspects of the brothers side were on form today and it wasn’t long before young Ryan was in for his second, a kick a little more difficult though and Ben stepped up for a long shot and just missed, the ball was following through the hands now and Jan was released within our half to score a great individual try  with a conversions from Kobi, Ben Thornton was now receiving some quality ball from the forwards and our fly half Mitch and managed to score increasing the lead by 23 – 7, it look as though Kalamunda had they spirit broken now which the brothers took full advantage of Jan managed his second, pressure from the forwards gave Mitch a nice advantage to score near the posts, with the game in its closing minutes Jack Wintergreen smashed through for the final try giving the final score of 54 – 7, all players played exceptionally well today and it was the coaches difficult decision of MVP between Kobi and Izaak but was finally awarded to Izaak!
Under 13 Swan
Our boys took on Southern Lions this week. Joondalup came out hungry for a victory and they didn't disappoint. A confidence building victory 25-22 showed the boys that the hard work at training was paying off.
Never giving up and getting clean ball to the backs, we crossed the line 5 times.
Southern Lions tried desperately to counter, but our boys were overdue for a victory and they made sure it happened. Congrats Boys
!
Under 13 Gold
Our boys took on Perth Bayswater this week. Injury and illness was the flavour of the week. We took to the field hungry to play some good rugby. A converted try by our team set the challenge to Bayswater who took it on with a hard and physical response. Some bad handling by Joondalup opened the gate for a follow up try by Bayswater. An agro match ensued with Joondalup trying desperately to play good fair rugby, Bayswater had other ideas. A hard fought match was unfortunately ended with a broken collar bone by our brave winger Dre Taurima, this saw the paramedics stretcher him off and the ref calling the match 7-7. This marks the 3rd season ending injury to one our players. But we will be back for a victory next week!
Under 15 Swan
The Swan team took to the field against a much larger Mandurah team and again seemed really slow out of the blocks, which saw them 19 – 0 down within the first fifteen minutes. This is a frustratingly common occurrence, which needs to change if the boys are to play to their full potential and be a force in the completion.
Just before the break, a spark started to smoulder with the Brothers being much more committed and effective in the contact areas. The success in this area started to fuel the intensity with which the boys used the various structures which the larger Mandurah pack struggled to keep up with. The boys maintained the intensity to close the match out and win 29 – 19, which was a tremendous  and well deserved result that the boys clearly enjoyed…..Just imagine what could be achieved if we played like that for 50 mins!!
Under 15 Gold
The Gold team started with their usual intensity against the recently promoted SOAKs team, quickly starting to dominate and control both ball and territory. Unfortunately, this early pressure took time to convert into points as cheap penalties were conceded at critical times and allowed SOAKs to clear their lines. The match continued to develop into a closely contested battle, with SOAKs using effective counter rucking to limiting clean ball for the Brothers. When the boys did secure the ball, the use of both the forwards and backs started to create more space, which the boys soon took advantage of. The final result, a quite disappointing 14 all, really didn’t reflect the territory or possession the Brothers had but has identified a number of areas that will be the focus of this week’s training.
