Launch of Age Friendly Business Recognition Programme

A new initiative is currently being rolled out in Carlow to target the 65+ market - a growing segment of our population, living longer and better, with more disposable income at their discretion which is positively affecting all areas of Carlow's economy.

Following an application process by Carlow L.E.O., County Carlow was selected to roll out an Age Friendly Business Recognition Programme. This programme has already been piloted across 20 towns and 150 premises throughout the country with significant successes.

The concept of the business recognition programme  local businesses to further tap into an existing and growing market segment  - the older customer accounts for over 50% of consumer spending in Ireland and on average is taking three domestic trips each year for a duration of three days. < >s the efforts and improvements being made by local businesses to provide more age-friendly products and services. < >the likelihood of consumer loyalty for a participating business. It is relatively easy to make a business age friendly. Most age-friendly practices are no cost or low cost and can mean a big difference to the business and to its older clients. Simple changes include providing seats and water for older customers if waiting for services, making a business easier to find, move around in and make purchases, providing home delivery services or price lists and menus in larger font all make a tangible difference to the older person’s experience.

Business owners are invited to attend a workshop  which takes place tonight at 7 p.m. in the Seven Oaks Hotel, Athy Road, Carlow and explains the business accreditation process. For further information telephone Carlow Tourism 059-9130411 or e-mail John on jmulcahy@carlowcoco.ie
