TORONTO FOOD POLICY COUNCIL ANNOUNCES EIGHT NEW CITIZEN MEMBERS
And Daily Bread Senior Manager of Research is among them.

Created by Toronto Public Health to advise and support them in developing food security policies and programs, the Toronto Food Policy Council (TFPC) is a group made up of citizens, three city councillors and a member of the Board of Health. Daily Bread’s senior manager of research, Richard Matern, is one of the newest citizen members of the group, which acts as the community reference group for the Toronto Food Strategy, providing leadership and engaging Toronto and its people on food systems issues that affect everyone and at every income level.

In Toronto, food often becomes a two-tier system between the haves and the have-nots. Farmer’s markets, food festivals, restaurants and even the local grocery store have food that is priced far beyond what people on social assistance and others on low incomes can afford. Richard brings a wealth of knowledge on food access issues for people on low incomes which is often not about food at all, but about poverty. While Daily Bread Food Bank works to provide people with nutritious, healthy food, the other part of our mission concentrates on finding long-term solutions to poverty through innovative policy work and working with other people and community organizations, such as the Toronto Food Policy Council, to effect real change.
JUST GIVE 2015
A special thank you to the many volunteers, police officers and Purolator staff who helped make this campaign a success.
It takes a village! Thanks to Pinball Clemons and his Just Give campaign on Wednesday June 3rd, the Cram-a-Cruiser event was a great success, raising 9,336 pounds for Daily Bread Food Bank. Thanks to the schools who participated, as well as the Toronto Police Services, Purolator and The Michael "Pinball" Clemons Foundation for organizing as part of their week-long Just Give campaign!
NATIONAL CAMPAIGN, GIVE 30, ALREADY IN FULL SWING
How 30 days can make a difference to people struggling with hunger
During the month of Ramadan everyone, regardless of faith can make a difference by making a gift to Daily Bread and fighting hunger. Give 30 is about making those in need your priority this summer.

This unique campaign started in 2012, in support of Daily Bread, and since then has grown into a national campaign fighting hunger across Canada. To date, the campaign has raised almost $250,000 and continues to grow to help even more people struggling in our city.

Ramadan is a time of year when many people voluntarily fast during the day to build empathy and compassion for those in need over a 30-day period. Give 30 encourages everyone to get involved. And it’s easy. Many people who fast, for example, keep track of what they would regularly spend on lunch and donate that amount to Give 30.

Any amount makes a huge difference to the people – seniors, children and families – who are struggling with hunger and poverty. Want to make a difference? Donate to Daily Bread right now.
