2015 Annual Meeting


President Pierre Lortie inducted fifty new Fellows in a ceremony at the Art Gallery of Hamilton on 4 June.  The attendees at the dinner enjoyed a keynote address from Dr. Kevin Smith, Chair of the Canada Foundation for Innovation.  The theme of this year’s conference was “Engineering and Public Policy”.  Sessions focussed on the approach to this issue from Industry, the Profession and Universities.

Dr. Norbert Morgenstern
awarded Honorary Fellowship


On 18 June in Calgary, Kim Sturgess, CAE Past President, presented Dr. Norbert Morgenstern with his Honorary Fellowship.Dr. Morgenstern was cited for his long career as an educator and expert in geotechnical engineering. We wish to thank the Alberta Chamber for Resources for hosting this presentation as part of their semi annual meeting.

CAE/IRPP Roundtables


The joint Institute for Research in Public Policy /CAE National Roundtable series on Science, Engineering and Public Policy wrapped up with events in Toronto (June 2), Montreal (June 12) and Ottawa (June 16). Arthur Carty, FCAE, former Science Advisor to the Prime Minister, was the luncheon speaker at the Toronto event. All-in-all, close to 200 individuals, many of whom are FCAE,  contributed to the Chatham House roundtables.  A report will be issued this Autumn in Policy Options Magazine.  We wish to thank our sponsors the Canadian Nuclear Association and the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association.

INAE/CAE workshop on Clean Coal Technologies.


July 9-10 will see the second half of the joint Indian National Academy of Engineering/CAE workshop on Clean Coal Technologies. The first part of the series was held in Delhi in December 2012.  Ravi Ravidran, a CAE Past-President, and his committee have put together an ambitious series of talks and field trips. The meeting will be hosted by Ryerson University. Fellows interested in attending should contact our office.
