Dear Friends and Colleagues,

One would be hard-pressed not to have noticed the flurry of activity in Washington, DC these past few weeks. Likewise, Washington, DC has kept an eye on critical development overseas. At the very least, it has all been good fodder for our recent roundtables. At the very best, it demonstrates the importance of substantive relationships based on mutual respect and understanding between Members of Congress and their peers abroad. We're honored that our programs are a part of this mission.

We'll send one more update (and convene one more Hill program - you're invited) before the August recess. Until then, thanks for your interest. Keep in touch.
CSGG: 7/8 – U.S.-German Cooperation in Workforce Training

The Congressional Study Group on Germany was pleased to partner with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) to convene a roundtable on the future of career and technical education. Experts from the FES Working Group on SMEs visiting from Germany shared their experiences and perspectives with Capitol Hill, the transatlantic business community, and representatives of the US Departments of Commerce, Education, and Labor. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Education Mark Mitsui, Congressman Mark Takano, and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur were our featured American discussants, with DIE WELT Senior Political Correspondent Ansgar Graw providing expert moderation. CSGE: 7/9 - Europe "Surrounded by Crisis:" Greece, Ukraine, and Refugees

This morning brought a delegation from the German Bundestag Committee on EU Affairs. And what a timely visit it was! CSGE Co-Chair Rep. Peter Welch and Günther Krichbaum MdB led their respective colleagues in a conversation about "surrounded by crisis." From the frozen conflict in Ukraine to a red-hot referendum in Greece that threatens the Eurozone, parliamentarians on both sides traded differing views on these difficult challenges. As always, the one certain area of common ground is the importance of transatlantic cooperation. [PHOTOS]
