LETTER FROM THE FOUNDER

Welcome to the July 2015 issue of Haute Off The Press...LabelHorde's effort to keep you informed about local fashion jobs, news, events and opportunities.

This month we've got six fashion jobs to share with you!

Each month, there are more and more job postings in these newsletters. This is truly exciting because the goal of LabelHorde was to help scaffold the local fashion community and help nurture it into an industry.  This dream started when I first moved to Arizona from Los Angeles and closed down my collection Monkeywench due to lack of manufacturing resources in AZ. I vowed to do everything in my power to bring together local fashion professionals hoping that working together would help start a small industry. For about 14 years now, I've dedicated the majority of my time and resources to informing fashion lovers about all fashion news, events and opportunities and educating students and emerging designers through the local college courses I teach as well as the private lessons and fashion business consultations I offer. Every day brings more clues that a fashion industry is finally starting to emerge.

The growing number of jobs postings is one positive sign. However, I've noticed with this increase in the demand for sewing contractors, pattern makers and full service manufactures, there is a lack of supply to fill those jobs. I do my best to educate, but I believe a local fashion incubator is our next step... a place where the fashion program graduates can continue their education and learn the industrial manufacturing skills that aren't taught in school.

My vision is to one day have an physical incubator space that LabelHorde can call home. A place where we can educate and train locals to manufacture as well as provide space for events, space for seminars and meetings, photo shoots and even provide the machines for rent on an as-needed basis in addition to light manufacturing services. In order to achieve this goal, I believe we would need the support of the city or of a philanthropic sponsor who could donate retail space in Scottsdale. I'm planting the seeds here now. I believe this would be a huge link in the chain toward a viable local fashion industry. Please spread the word and contact me with any ideas or contacts who could potentially help.

AZ FASHION EVENTS CALENDAR

We are pleased to announce that in addition to the AZ Fashion Directory, we now have an AZ Fashion Events Calendar where you can find all local fashion events as well as important national and international fashion events like fashion weeks, trade shows and more.

Media coverage for local fashion businesses

If you own a fashion business and are listed in LabelHorde's Directory we would like to help you get some media coverage in the Examiner.com. Simply contact us and we will connect you.

If a story meets the criteria and is considered newsworthy, the article will be automatically published in Google News’ Fashion category (international).  This is a great place for an article to be seen and increases exposure exponentially!  Due to an agreement between Examiner.com and Reuters, the newsworthy stories will also be picked up and distributed via Reuters America as well.

Wanted very skilled and experienced Sewing/Manufacturing Contractors to work preferably from their home (must have own Serger and sewing machine that produce high quality stitches) or from my East Mesa studio all on a contractual basis.  Individuals must have experience with knits and formalwear. Pattern making and draping a plus. Must be able make a dress from a sketch and take direction as to how things need to be constructed. MUST BE RELIABLE and meet deadlines. All fabrics will be provided.  Must be comfortable working with Lycra, satin, organza, stretch mesh, chiffon etc.

Responsibilities include:
- Working with light-weight fabric traditionally used in lingerie and swimwear
