TEXT:

1. Immaculate, Mary!
Our hearts are on fire.
That title so wondrous
Fills all our desire.

Refrain Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria!
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria!

2. We pray for God's glory,
May His Kingdom come.
We pray for His Vicar,
Our Father in Rome. Refrain

3. We pray for our Mother,
The Church upon earth.
And bless, sweetest Lady,
The land of our birth. Refrain

4. There is no need, Mary,
Nor ever hath been,
Which thou canst not succor,
Immaculate Queen. Refrain

5. O bless us, dear Lady,
With blessings from heaven,
And to our petitions
Let answer be given. Refrain

6. And crown thy sweet mercy
With this special grace,
|To behold| soon in heaven
God's ravishing Face. Refrain

7. |Now to| God be all glory
And worship fore'er,
|And to| God's Virgin Mother,
An endless "Ave." Refrain

ALTERNATE TEXT

Who reignest in splendor with Jesus our King. Refrain (same as above)

On earth we thy children invoke thy fair name. Refrain

Thy love is our comfort, thy pleading our might. Refrain

More Sacred Music to Listen to and Enjoy:

Ave Maris Stella by Edvard Grieg (length 2:41) This piece is so lovely! I wish choirs would sing little masterpieces like this more often. (Hopefully the more you and your children listen to these pieces it inspires you to help in some way to improve the music at your parish - if it needs help, that is!)

Chant Propers for the Extraordinary Form (CCWatershed) - if you have 15 minutes to spare one weekend, try listening to the ancient chants for the Sunday propers.

Chant Kyriale (CCWatershed) - did you know there are 18 different Gregorian Mass settings?

For further learning about sacred music:

- Read the fifteenth and sixteenth Q&A: "What are the sung Propers?" and "What about “Music in Catholic Worship” (1972, rev. 1983) and “Liturgical Music Today” (1982), two documents often cited in discussions of sacred music?"

- View an online collection of ancient Gregorian manuscripts. Take a close look at some of the illuminated initials - and everything hand drawn on animal parchment!

Connect on the Google+ Community

I started a Google+ community for these studies. This has great potential for being a place to: 1) discuss the music we are learning each month, and 2) share our learning experiences with others. I think it would be helpful if Q&A, interesting facts found, or other helpful information could be easily seen and discussed by all.  Think of it as an online study and support group.

Let's enjoy this learning experience together!

If you are new to Google+,  here's a great tutorial on getting started
