Green Week Activities Highlight EU
Environment Policies!

Green Week was celebrated throughout Europe in June and the 2015 theme of "Nature and Biodiversity" was highlighted by the EU Infopoint. Green Week is the biggest annual conference on European environment policy and key messages from the EU were discussed at various events organised by the EU Infopoint in the past month.
Europe Day and Green Week Fair: Environment messages highlighted
The Europe Day and Green Week Fair held on Saturday 13 June at Selimiye Square, Nicosia attracted more than 350 participants who came along to find out more about the European Union; learn how to protect the environment from local NGOs; visit the embassy stands, and enjoy the rich cultural and music programme. The EU Infopoint would like to thank the European Commission, the European Union Coordination Centre (EUCC), Nicosia Turkish Municipalty, EVKAF Administration, the NGOs and embassies that took part as well as all of the participants. Environment Exhibition
The EU Infopoint announced the winners of the environment themed competition for school students at a prize ceremony and exhibition on 30 June at Atatürk Kültür Merkezi (AKM). The importance of environmental protection and EU policies on environment were highlighted at the event.
Europe Day & Green Week Fair
The EU Infopoint organised its first outdoor event in Nicosia at Selimiye Square on 13 June to celebrate Europe Day & Green Week and to highlight the EU environment policies. Local environment NGOs showcased their own projects and demonstrated good practices for environmental protection. European Union Member State representatives provided information about their own countries including environment success stories. 
 
Organic Agriculture and Biodiversity Panel
The EU Infopoint organised an Organic Agriculture and Biodiversity Panel Discussion on 29 June that brought together an EU expert, local experts, and practitioners to discuss organic agricultural practices in Cyprus and its effects on biodiversity; EU policies on agriculture and organic agriculture; and success stories from the EU.
Nature & Biodiversity Panel
The EU Infopoint organised a panel on “Nature and Biodiversity” on 2 June with the participation of EU and local speakers to exchange views on the importance of nature and biodiversity within the framework of Green Week activities. As one of the most important initiatives that emphasises the EU's environmental policies, Green Week is celebrated each year with a different theme. Nature and Biodiversity was the theme for 2015.

  • The EU Infopoint will be coming to the regions in July as part of the rural tours to highlight the EU's Rural Development Policy and success stories from the Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community. The activities will take place from 27 to 31 July. 
  • International Youth Day will be celebrated in August with activities aimed at promoting education and employment opportunities for young people, and a debate on youth issues.

The EU Infopoint aims to increase public knowledge, awareness and understanding of the European Union, its values, policies and programmes as well as the EU Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community. The EU Infopoint is a project funded by the European Union under the Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community with the aim to bring the Turkish Cypriot community closer to the EU.
