ICYMI: FDA Approves New Heart Failure Drug

On July 7, 2015, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Entresto™ (sacubitril/valsartan), previously known as LCZ696, a new therapy for heart failure patients developed by our member Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation. The Stronger Hearts Helpline is made possible through funding by Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation.

The National Forum for Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention applauds the FDA's decision to approve E
ntresto as it has shown it can reduce the risk of cardiovascular death among patients with heart failure and lower their rate of hospitalization. While excited that Entresto is being added to the medical arsenal to combat heart failure, we are mindful that no single therapy can do the job alone. It will take a collective effort, along with new therapies, to prevent the maladies of heart failure – but it is possible. Our pilot of the Stronger Hearts Helpline, a bilingual, 24/7 free resource for people who suffer from heart failure and their families/caregivers, is proving that collaboration to prevent heart failure can happen.
