An exciting new appointment for VMS

Venue Management Services (VMS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Erica Sammut to the newly created position of General Manager- Venues and Events. 

With over 15 years industry experience, Erica joins VMS from recent roles at Delaware North Companies at the Melbourne and Olympic Parks as Food and Beverage Manager and Spotless and Epicure at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as Event Planning Manager.

Erica will be responsible for the management of the nationwide VMS portfolio of venues and the growth of VMS further into the local and state government sector.

A little more about Erica

Erica has an extensive event, business, sales and catering management background achieved from working in some of Melbourne’s most iconic venues being:-
  • Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena at Melbourne Park (home of the Australian Open)
  • The Melbourne Cricket Ground (The Peoples Ground)
  • Flemington Racecourse (home of the Melbourne Cup)
  •  Hotel Sofitel
Outside of Melbourne, her venues have included the Sydney Cricket Ground, Vector Arena in New Zealand and the opening of the National Sports Stadium in Singapore. 

Having worked for all four of the major catering companies in Melbourne (Delaware North, Spotless, Epicure and Peter Rowland Catering) she has an enviable knowledge of running venues and events.

Erica recently completed an industry research trip to the USA where she visited 10 venues across 5 states. The purpose of the trip was to:-
  • Explore international hospitality trends, new innovations and presentations
  • Visit international venues expanding her industry knowledge whilst gaining key insights and ideas
  • Exposure to supply right activations and retail marketing opportunities
  • Insight into Corporate Sales & Marketing strategies
  • Research “best purpose built” venues and “best practice”
  • Gain an exposure to international corporate event standards

This research was invaluable in giving her new ideas, innovations, inspiration, knowledge and the confidence to implement change for growth in a function business.

Erica is passionate about the provision of excellent customer service. She leads by example and likes to motivate her team with outstanding leadership qualities. She enjoys coaching and mentoring her team for career progression, facilitating training and developing staff in guest service and service delivery.
