A better way to go
Want to improve commuter options at your workplace? We can help.

Paint it green

We all know that cycling is a fun, healthy and environmentally friendly way to commute, but it's turning even greener in Winnipeg. The city is testing out these anti-skid strips on sections of bike lanes, which also makes them more visible. Have you spotted a Mmax green strip? Snap a pic and send it to #greenaction!
Pedestrian and Cycling Strategies approved

Winnipeg officially adopted the Pedestrian and Cycling Strategies earlier this summer. And while the City has not yet filled the vacant Active Transportation Coordinator position, we remain optimistic that we'll see some significant progress in the coming year.
Bumper sticker win

Check out this bumper sticker spotted in the Health Sciences Centre parking lot. Where can we pick these up?
Bikes good for business

Bike Friendly Businesses openly promote and support cycling in the Downtown and Exchange District of Winnipeg. Participating businesses commit to offer services such as bike parking, loaner locks, maps and a pump. Check out the list of Bike Friendly Businesses
Want to lower your BMI? Take the bus!

No surprise that walking and cycling to work will make you healthier. But it turns out that even taking transit is associated with a lower Body Mass Index (BMI) than for those who drive.
Upcoming events
Ciclovia is this Sunday!

On September 13th, Winnipeggers will get the chance to walk, jog or cycle from Assiniboine Park to The Forks and on to Kildonan Park on a car-free route! The streets will be OPEN to healthy commuters for one day only as part of Ciclovia. Come visit Green Action Centre's booth with the Big Bike Map on Broadway in the Bike Zone!

Lunge for transit passes?

Mexico City is combating obesity by giving a free Metro ticket in exchange for 10 squats. Would you lunge for transit passes in Winnipeg?

Bike licensing: is it worth it

You've probably heard it before: "If cyclists want to use the roads, they should get a license!" We explore this issue to find out if it's worth it for Winnipeg to invest in bike licensing.

Bottled-water free events

Times are a-changing (again!). Remember when it seemed ridiculous that people would pay for bottled water? Then, remember how quickly bottled water was everywhere? Well, we're happy to note that bottled water is heading back onto the unwanted list. We've blogged about how you can keep bottled water off the planning list for your next event.

Bike Week in Portage

This year Portage La Prairie had their first Annual Bike Week – very cool! From a bike rodeo to a public art tour, the week was full of activities that were capped off by Bike to Work Day. Way to go, Portage!

Do all bikes have pedals?

What makes a bike a bike? Must you pedal, or can you walk, row or use an elliptical motion and still call it a bike? Check out these designs.
