Here are a few great articles I’ve found this week around the web. Cami Bird at LocalVox offers a great set of tips inspired by Ikea’s excellent content marketing campaigns. At BPlans, Tim Berry explores the difficult question of when a company should change its plan and or stay the course. On Moz’s blog, Krista Hines offers an excellent beginner’s guide to using Google Analytics. And Becky McCray at Small Biz Survival discusses the rise of coworking spaces, which are now popping up even in small towns.
At Fit Small Business, we explain how to use SMS marketing to engage customers. The craziest thing we learned when we wrote this piece? As many as 95 in 100 customers will look at a marketing text within three minutes of receiving it. Very impressive.

Texting has by far the best engagement rate of any marketing medium. Whereas emails can sit unread, phone calls can go can go unanswered and leaflets can be thrown out before given a second glance, text messages are almost always read, and read quickly. As James Citron, CEO of text messaging service Mogreet, said to Forbes, “95 out of 100 of your customers who have opted into your text messaging program OPEN and READ your mobile messages within 3 minutes.”

IKEA’s company motto is, “we earn our money before we spend it.” Therefore, it makes sense that they use content marketing strategies that they can directly correlate to boosting sales — not just spreading brand awareness. Keeping their company motto in mind, they created and deployed some innovative and highly-effective content marketing campaigns that have been referenced as “best in class” by expert digital marketers.

The monthly review meeting is absolutely essential to real business planning. The real value of business planning is the decisions it causes, and the management that results; and for that you need not just a plan but a regular monthly review to track results and revise as necessary. And the toughest part of the review meeting is this crucial question: Do we stick to the plan, or do we change it?

If you don't know what Google Analytics is, haven't installed it on your website, or have installed it but never look at your data, then this post is for you. While it's hard for many to believe, there are still websites that are not using Google Analytics (or any analytics, for that matter) to measure their traffic. Do you have a blog? Do you have a static website? If the answer is yes, whether they are for personal or business use, then you need Google Analytics.

No longer contained to cities, coworking spaces are popping up in cities and towns of all sizes. These spaces have unique challenges and are well-served to learn from each other. From tiny towns in Texas, to isolated mountain towns and even islands, coworking is becoming a part of communities of all makeups and sizes.”
