CCPR Captures National Environmental Award

Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) continues to strive for gold and brings home another national award. CCPR was recently selected to receive a National Barb King Environmental Stewardship Award by the National Recreation and Park Association as an agency that walks the talk when it comes to excellence in environmental stewardship. The award will be publicly presented during a special reception at the 2015 NRPA Annual Conference in Las Vegas, VA on Thursday, September 17.

The Bark King award was created in 2008 to honor former NRPA Board Member, Barb King. According to NRPA’s president Barbara Tulipane, “Barb was a passionate proponent of environmental stewardship and sustainability. She believed that sustainability started with wellness — healthy kids, healthy communities and a respect for the earth. She worked tirelessly to further the cause of creating sustainable communities through education, effective environmental planning, implementation of sustainability programs, and measurable results.” Barb is a walking version of NRPA’s three pillars (conservation, health & wellness, and social equity), all of which fall in line with CCPR’s mission and vision.

“It is rewarding to be recognized as the top environmental agency for the year and be recognized at the ‘Best of the Best’ ceremony,” said Michael Klitzing, CCPR COO. “Reflecting the values of the community, 65% of CCPR’s 502 acres of parkland has either been preserved or restored to a natural state, providing valuable habitat for wildlife and opportunities for residents to escape into nature.”
