Help Me Grow founder Paul Dworkin, M.D., recently attended a WK Kellogg Foundation Think Tank meeting on Realizing Our Vision: Healthy Birth Outcomes. Dr. Dworkin writes, "I spoke about scaling up effective models and strategies and offered a brief version of the Help Me Grow story as a case study. In my remarks, I called out five key strategies that have contributed to our collective success in spreading and scaling Help Me Grow and securing support for long-term sustainability." BUILD INITIATIVE Launches Equity Leaders Action Network
The BUILD Initiative is launching an Equity Leaders Action Network (ELAN) to support individual leaders, over three years, who have responsibility at the state or county level for early childhood systems. ELAN leaders will work together to identify, address and take action on issues of inequity based on race, ethnicity, language and culture in our early childhood state systems. Help Me Grow Alameda Parent Evaluation: Fabulous Response!
In May 2015, First 5 Alameda (California) facilitated an evaluation of Help Me Grow Alameda. Telephone surveys in English and Spanish were conducted with 140 HMG clients to understand client experiences with HMG phone Linkage Line services. The results were extraordinarily positive. For example, close to 95% of participants ‘agreed’ or ‘strongly agreed’ that understanding of their child’s development, knowledge of available services, connection to services, and ability to advocate for their child improved as a result of HMG! Overall, the 140 survey participants experienced very high levels of benefit, help, and satisfaction with HMG regardless of service received, goal completion, or language spoken in the family. Help Me Grow Michigan at "Meet Up and Eat Up" Family Events
At Meet Up and Eat Up, free lunches are available Monday through Friday for children 18 and younger. These free midday meals are full of healthy fruits and veggies to help fuel kids all summer long. HMG Michigan will be onsite offering free Developmental Screenings & Giveaways. Learn more.
Help Me Grow Florida Receives Legislative Support
With the support of Rep. Erik Fresen (R) and the advocacy of The Children's Movement of Florida (CMF), Help Me Grow FL received almost $2 million in year-after-year funding, giving those working on Help Me Grow a foundation on which to begin reaching parents with highly localized information in all 67 Florida counties. As Dave Lawrence and Vance Aloupis of CMF write, Help Me Grow "is the first-of-its-kind resource to give parents answers to their questions so they can best help their children." Read more.
