Summer's Beauty

This beautiful tiger swallowtail was caught mid-sip by amazing nature photographer Diane Routt on our last Tracking day in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.  Summer's beauty is breathtaking whether experienced in the small gifts nature offers or the grand vistas.  We hope you'll get out and experience nature's wonders as much as possible this summer.  As one TreeSong visitor explained it, "Nature is balm for the soul."

Birding in the Pacific Northwest with Laura  Whittemore,
Saturday, August 1st, 9am-2pm

Instructor Laura Whittemore has been teaching classes in beginning birding and birding by ear for the Audubon Society of Portland since 2000.  Through this class, she hopes to enhance your time outdoors by teaching you to identify birds, our most accessible and visible wildlife. In this class, you’ll learn what characteristics, or field marks, make each species unique and how watching behavior alone can tell you a great deal about a bird’s life history. Learn how and where to look for birds, listen for their songs and calls, and gain a deeper appreciation for everyday encounters with the many species in our urban and natural areas.

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
