Welcome to our July issue of Your Community, Your Planet! - short and sweet this month as it's only been a couple of weeks since the last issue!

Our projects and services...

Kingsway garden summer volunteer sessions: over the summer our weekly volunteer sessions at Kingsway Court Community Garden have moved to a Wednesday afternoon from 1-4pm - pop along and lend a hand (and enjoy the great summer weather!!)

Committed to Excellence award: we recently attended the Scottish Awards for Business Excellence were we received our Committed to Excellence award from Quality Scotland.

Summer clean up: in partnership with Sustrans Scotland we will be hosting a clean up on the cycle path to clear vegetation including Himalayan balsam. We will meet at Dock St in Yoker at 10am on Wed 29 Jul - everyone welcome to come along and lend a hand.

Give an old bike a new home: De'ils On Wheels has a range of affordable reused bikes for sale and is also happy to take donations of any unwanted bikes - so please think about giving an old bike a new home!

Other news...

Victoria Park blaes pitches consultation published: almost a year after the Council put the blaes pitches up for rent the consultation report has now been published but no decision about the future of the pitches has been made

Glasgow Wood Recycling making wood work: GWR are currently recruiting for their 10 week accredited training programme Making Wood Work

Glasgow's Strategic Plan for Cycling: the Council are currently consulting on their strategic plan for cycling 2015-2025 - the deadline for responding is Fri 4 Sep.

Summer walking programme: Kingsway Court Health & Wellbeing Centre are running a summer walking programme up until the end of September.

New bus route from north west Glasgow to hospital: FirstBus Glasgow has announced new services 15 and 16 will be introduced between Drumchapel or Summerston and the South Glagow hospitals via Partick from 19 Jul.

Further investment in cycling infrastructure: the Council have announced a further £1M of investment in improving cycling infrastructure across the city.

Council announce plans to save £100M: Glasgow City Council have recently announced plans to make a further £100M of savings across the Council - approx 7% of it's budget.

New walking and cycling apps for Glasgow: as part of the Glasgow Future City project two new smartphone apps have recently been launched - one for walking and one for cycling!

Flooding on Dumbarton Road in Yoker to be addressed: a new half mile section of sewer pipe is to be installed in Yoker to improve drtainage and reduce flooding

ParkLives free events: there are a whole load of free events happening in parks across Glasgow as part of the ParkLives initiative.

Knightswood Gala Day: this year this community event will take place on Sat 5 Sep at Knightswood Park - more info soon!
