Fellow Republican,
It's time to make sure that Republican principles win into the future, not whichever special interest has the most money.

Fellow Republican,

Politicians and our party should serve the people, not whatever special interest has the most money. Republican principles and the platform are good for all of our society, and that is the truth. That is why we work hard to get Republicans elected, and why our party exists to serve those who work to see Republican principles enacted into law, not anyone with a large bank account. By growing the party and standing for the truth, our party should thrive far into the future, and have plenty of funds to grow county parties and grow the number of informed Republican activists and voters throughout the state.

That is why it is concerning that the the AJC is reporting that the Georgia Republican Party, as of the end of June, "...had a net balance of $105,000 --- but also $91,000 in in outstanding debts, all incurred since January." The full article may be found here. A detailed breakdown of all expenditures and contributions from the reporting period may be found here.

Why are statewide funds so low? Jon Richards, a blogger on Peach Pundit, recounted
in response to the above report, an illuminating experience the day after the state convention. In summary, he recalled a conversation with a "big muckety muck" who works at a "major Atlanta based company" that stated that his company, and others, were withholding donations until John Padgett was re-elected Chairman at the convention in mid-May. Since the disclosure report shows that almost all corporate donations were received prior to the convention, and all donations from corporations of over $10,000.00, including Coca-Cola and Lockheed-Martin, were either received prior to the state convention, or were from donors who gave both immediately before and after the convention, it proves two sobering conclusions, assuming the Richards article is true:

(1) The Georgia GOP, unlike your local county party, is perceived as (if not in actuality) heavily reliant and dependent on large corporate favor and contributions;

AND/OR

(2) Some such corporate donors will outright lie: they will threaten to withhold funding to ensure their desired outcomes in politics, and then, even if placated, not carry through on providing that funding in a timely manner. (Richards article halfway down the page here)

Hopefully, donations are coming, but that's beside the point. This attitude is appalling. It marginalizes the activists working hard in the party. And lying should have no place in politics. Our principles help all businesses, and those businesses that support Republican principles and voters, not desire undue influence, are the only ones that should be honored. So what can be done?

First, we must focus on growing the numbers educated, informed, and empowered Republicans throughout the state and in each and every county party. While funds are part of the equation to win elections, more involved people not only leads to more money, but more time, energy, and votes to ensure election victories both now and in the future. The more people that you can invite out to your local meetings, inform and
subscribe to these e-mails, and get involved throughout the state, the better. Make sure that every person you know, knows how to be involved in the GOP!

Second, we must ensure that we keep all Republican offices in Georgia in the hands of Republicans. As discussed in my last message there have been numerous special elections and many Republican victories. However, in House District 80 (contained mostly in my home county of DeKalb), there is currently a run-off election between one Republican and a Democrat. Please assist the DeKalb GOP with turning out the Republican vote by contacting the DeKalb GOP through Russell Steen at
404-590-3002 or Russell.Steen@gmail.comWith low turnout, every bit of help will matter!

Third, we must stay involved and active. Some upcoming events:
