1) BCRG input into EPA Victoria review
During last night’s BCRG meeting it was proposed that BCRG should send a submission to the review of the EPA. According to the government, “The review will examine the powers and resourcing of the state's environmental regulator and ensure the Authority is best prepared to act on community concerns and tackle modern day challenges such as pollution and contamination.â€
(http://www.vic.gov.au/news/epa-review.html )
As an impartial and independent facilitator, I am happy to coordinate a submission to the review, but the views and opinions expressed in it need to come from BCRG participants. If you would like to include your views included in the submission, please send your thoughts about EPA’s powers and resourcing to me at jen@kismetforward.com.au by COB 7th August. (Please let me know if you need more time). I will compile all responses and distribute the final product via an update.
Jen Lilburn, Convenor BCRG.
2) Australian Tallow Producers Update
The full update with photos and highlights can be seen on the brooklynip website. click here![]()
In April this year, ATP appointed Paul Brazendale as our Chief Operations Officer and Steve Paloyanidis as our Operations Engineer and Site Manager.
I have great pleasure in making this announcement, which will further support our capability to execute and sustain compliance activities on our site. We are investing heavily in our future and can say we are very excited about going forward with our family business. Our family envisage going from strength to strength with our new team at the helm.
Steve is highly qualified in the rendering industry, spending many years at JBS (Swift) before joining us. He is familiar with our environmental challenges and has an abundance of experience in working with odorous products. Paul comes from the bulk oil industry, so again brings a vast amount of relevant industry experience with him.
Leighton Black will continue in his current role of Environmental Officer.
Since arriving our new management team have been busy assessing our site and looking at further ways to improve. See below a number of projects we have completed recently, costing approx $150,000. ATP will continue with our efforts to minimize any impact our site may have on our neighbours and to constantly raise the bar on best practice. We believe every small step helps.
I will continue to play a role mentoring the new Management team until they are fully up to speed on all things enviro. However my responsibilities relating to EPA reporting and activities are gradually being handed over to Steve and Paul for site visit follow ups and compliance matters and reports respectively.
Regards,
Cathy Palmer, Director
3) BCRG Advertising and ongoing publicity and posters
Thank you to Transpacific Cleanaway for sponsoring the advertisement of last night’s meeting in The Brimbank and Hobsons Bay Star Weekly.
While it does not appear to have had an impact on participation at the meeting, it will have drawn attention to the forum and we did get a spike in people reaching and liking the BCRG Facebook page.
We very much appreciate the support Transpacific Cleanaway, thank you!
We have produced a promotional poster for BCRG and put a few up in community centres in Yarraville and south of the freeway but it would be great to get them posted in more places. If you would like to put a poster up the document is available on the Brooklynip website.
