Enrich your marriage

Marriage today needs all the support and encouragement that we can offer, Canberra and Goulburn Archbishop Christopher Prowse says.

He is encouraging married couples and those on the path to marriage to consider attending a weekend of guided reflection and spiritual enrichment which will be held at St Clement’s from Friday, 4 September, to Sunday, 6 September.

He suggests parishes might consider helping to sponsor couples to attend.

The weekend with the theme, Christian Marriage – a down-to-earth path to holiness, will draw on the wisdom of the Christian vision of marriage and family. It will be presented by The Majellan Family magazine editor Fr Michael Gilbert CSsR, and Melbourne lay theologian Christiaan Jacobs-Vandegeer and his wife Jennifer.

“I am sure that many couples would benefit greatly by a few days of quiet reflection on one of the greatest institutions humanity has ever produced: marriage," Archbishop Prowse said. "The Catholic understanding of the Sacrament of Marriage and marriage enrichment from our own Tradition would help many. I recommend the weekend for your careful consideration."

The Emmaus Journey, 21-25 September. Especially tailored for older and retired men and women to help them reflect peacefully on the daily blessings of God and on God’s faithful and unfailing presence in their lives. Presented by Fr Leo Coffey CSsR.

The importance of healing

Centering Prayer... Liberation from our Human Condition and False Self-Arrangements, 20-22 October. Trappist monk Fr Thomas Keating and Centering Prayer have played a major part in the journey of presenter Sr Lorraine Cupitt, who has been involved in spirituality and retreats for nearly 20 years. During the silent retreat, Thomas Keating (through DVDs ) will journey with participants, helping them see more clearly the importance of healing all that is unhealed within them.

Come pray and paint

Eat, Pray, Paint, 23-25 October. Join a “pop-up” art community for fellowship, for learning and to bring a contemplative spirit and shared wisdom to your own art work. Presented by:St Clement’s artist-in-residence Sue Orchison and international iconographer Mylene Mosella.

From the Rector

Dear Friends,
July already and mid-July at that! I hope this enews find you well and at peace.

Redemptorist communities around the world, of which St Clement's is one, have just celebrated the feast of The Most Holy Redeemer (3^rd Sunday of July). St Alphonsus’, who founded the Redemptorists in 1732, dedicated his newly formed group to Christ the Redeemer to carry on Jesus’ mission of preaching the Good News of ‘Plentiful Redemption’, especially to those in life who have been abandoned, feel left behind and marginalised.

This feast day is not so much about the actual act of Redemption, but rather tries to help us enter into and grasp something of the wonderful, extraordinary, creative love the Father has for each of us and the world.

My words are inadequate to describe the Fathers love for the Son and the Son’s love for us in giving his life that we may have life and light.

God’s love and Christian hope leads us all into positive action of redeeming love, living for others, and this is the mission of all.

At the beginning of July, a large group gathered at St Clement’s for a week to reflect on living the ‘Joy of the Gospel’, guided by Fr,. Frank Moloney SBD and Fr,. Tony Kelly CSsR. People tell me the experience was fantastic and they came away with fresh insight and enthusiasm. Thank you to Frank and Tony for your generous giving of your gifts and talents.

St Clement’s looks as beautiful as ever; of course it has been wet and cold as well as frosty and cold, but no snow! It is winter after all and for me it always taps into the wonder and mystery of creation and God’s providence.

For those feeling unwell or a bit isolated or who have heavy burdens to bear, please know you are remembered in our community and novena prayers to Our Lady of Perpetual Help every Saturday. Again, I thank Sue our manager and all the team for making St Clement’s such a hospitable place for people to come to.
