PET has the characteristics to elevate 3D-printing into the next level

Innofil3D launches a campaign to create more awareness for PET amongst 3D-printing users. The company believes that PET has the characteristics to become a new standard in 3Dprinting. In August 2015 Innofil3D will start with a campaign to seduce users to use PET. Innofil3D will launch their EPR PET filament on reels of 750 grams. The purchase price will be close to the known standard materials. 3D-print enthusiasts can buy their Innofil3D EPR PET filaments at their resellers.

Over the past years materials PLA and ABS have naturally evolved into the standard materials for 3D-printer enthusiasts. PLA is easy to use and has the biobased “factor”. ABS is strong and has great layer cohesion. But now it is time for the next step in 3d printing: with the introduction of an affordable PET, easy 3d printing with excellent print results will be accessible for the masses.

Scientific
“We strongly believe that our EPR PET has all the characteristics to elevate the 3D-printing experience and bring it to the next level. It has the ease of PLA combined with the strong layer cohesion of ABS, but doesn’t smell bad during printing. EPR PET also enables 3D-printing users to print with a larger operating window which makes it suitable for most 3D-printers and makes printer settings less critical. And last but not least EPR PET presents users the opportunity to show more details in their print” says Sharon Woldering, Material Developer at Innofil3D.

Applications
PET doesn’t have the biobased element that PLA has, but PET represents one of the biggest volumes in the world in the recycling chain. It is easy to recycle and widely available. If the right material source is used PET is food safe and is also safe for children: it has been approved for use in toys. The raw materials of EPR PET combine these elements.

Innofil3D
“As a manufacturer of FDM filaments we always aim to produce the highest quality filaments for our customers. Improving customer experience is part of our DNA as Innofil3D is a spinoff of the Dutch research institute Applied Polymer Institute (API). With over 30 years of experience in developing polymers entering the 3D-printing market was a logical step and Innofil3D was born” according to Jeroen Wiggers, CEO of Innofil3D. The companies are connected, which gives Innofil3D access to the extensive  research capability and polymer network of API. Being the largest FDM filament manufacturer in Europe many 3D-printer users already use Innofil3D materials under other labels, since the beginning of 2014 the filaments are also available under the brand name Innofi3D.
