Department moves official

The College of Professional Studies at UW-Stevens Point has a new, stronger feel. As of July 1, 2015, several programs moved, departments changed and the college has fewer, but larger and stronger, academic units. Read More

Victory Garden partnership

Rich Tenace, a current dietetics student and 2014 M.S. Nutritional Sciences alum, has been helping teach healthy eating habits to children in the summer school program at Madison Elementary by utilizing the nearby Victory Garden. Summer camp at the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic

Young campers participate in play-based therapy, led by School of Communication Sciences and Disorders graduate students Morgan Doelling, Allie Jankowski and Chelsea VandeHei, at the 10-day Social Skills Group Camp. Marty's Message

If you think CPS faculty and staff members took the summer off, guess again.

This summer in the College of Professional Studies alone, we held 65 different courses that enrolled 2,342 students. Our faculty also led students on study-abroad trips to Namibia, Africa, London, Lakota Reservation and two separate trips to China (Business, HPHD).

Our faculty and staff have also been busy planning new pedagogies, revising curricula and advancing their research. Many faculty attended classes of their own, participating in workshops on topics as varied as teaching technology, entrepreneurism and supporting the well-being of our Hmong community through Camp Phoojywg-Friend and the new Hmong Bike-Ped Community Map.

Several faculty spent their summers organizing and hosting conferences for the benefit of their professions and our alumni. For example, Leslie McClain led a group of faculty and staff who hosted the Wisconsin Reading Research Symposium attended by 125 reading specialists from all over Wisconsin. In August, Kristi Roth will host 150 school teachers as they discuss ways to integrate technology into their classrooms at the Digital Learning Jumpstart Conference and Edcamp. These activities were supported by our continuing education staff, a group that is very busy in the summer.

In less than a month we will welcome our students back for another year. As a result of working hard this summer, we will be ready for the opportunities that the new year brings.
