Vascular Surgery History Facts - Dr. Rudolph Matas
"Matas...made an incision just above the elbow on the inner aspect of the arm, exposing the brachial artery just below the aneurysm. The artery was ligated with a catgut ligature, but the aneurysm continued to pulsate. At this point, he decided to open the aneurysm."
