Sending Who?
This morning we were blessed to attend bible study at Grace Lutheran Church in McPhearson KS. Pastor Dumperth (pictured with our friends who hosted us) there was teaching about Mark 6 and Acts 6 as his theme in bible study this summer is missions! In Mark 6 we learn that Jesus sent his disciples out with nothing more than a staff and that they not only ministered to the spiritual needs but also to the physical needs, the Mark 6 example being healing sicknesses.
Pastor Dumperth then took us to Acts 6 where the Greeks complained to the disciples about the needs of the widows not being met. We read then in Acts 6:2b that the apostles called together all the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty.”
This is what we, the Wolf Pack have been appointed to do. Specifically John in the work of project management focusing on mercy projects in Africa. As laity we are not called to preach or administer sacraments. But it is good for us to “serve tables” to that our pastors can “devote themselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” Acts 6:4
So, here we are, not seven men, but one man, one woman, and 5 children. 7 people appointed to “serve tables” in Africa.
Thank-you Pastor Dumperth for a very timely bible study and for your continued prayer support as we embark on this work!
