GG BUZZ - ISSUE 11

Beating the freeze ...

July has been full of excitement, colour and festivities and its not over yet!

The 'Geraldine on Sale' campaign is still going strong and businesses are reporting that the sale has helped to create interest and a buzz around town.  A huge congratulations to Merran Blake and Cheryl Emerson who masterminded the idea and got the ball rolling.  These lively ladies now have their thinking caps on to plan other ways to attract people to our great town to shop.  If you would like to join their merry band or have an idea feel free to pop in to see them in their respective businesses!

If you have a topic of interest, or news to share, please email Janene at info@gogeraldine.co.nz using the title "GG Buzz".  Janene will ensure your item is included in the next issue.

Let us know what you think - this is your news sheet so help us to keep it interesting!

And the winner is ...

Congratulations Incredible Edible:  Not only have the busy folk at Incredible Edible Geraldine been awarded a special commendation at the recent Trustpower Timaru Community Awards and a scholarship to attend a Plant Propagation course, but last week they also launched their "Orchard of Legends".

The orchard, whose trees will be located all around the town, will be dedicated to legends of Geraldine - past or present.  The first dedications recognised Austen Deans, the Barker Family and Jan Hill with the planting of 3 trees along Huffey St last Thursday.  Check out the online map to see all the Incredible Edible spots around Geraldine.

Dress like a Hawaiian: Thanks to all the retailers and staff who glammed up a chilly but sunny July day by dressing up like a ukulele player AKA Hawaiian attire to show their support for the amazing and colourful Ukefest happening the same weekend.  The grand winners were the amazing folk at Fresh Choice Geraldine and the creative ladies at Robbie's Milkbar who took the theme one step further and went tartan for the day!  The FC team will be tucking in Hawaiian Pizza thanks to the  The Village Inn very soon while Rose (pictured above) from Robbie's was tickled to accept a Pineapple and Pineapple Lumps courtesy of Fresh Choice!

The Ukefest itself was very busy and attracted a record crowd.  Festival organisers, Hugh and Fi McCafferty, are already planning for the 2016 event so get ready for even more fun and music next July!

Events Around Town

Events Geraldine Calendar:  July has been amazing with the Ukefest and Winterlights Festival to name but two wonderful events, but make sure you are 'in the know' with the happenings around town by checking out the events calendar.  Click here to view the amazing video clip showcasing the Winterlights Windows, put together by Leigh Barrie, and set to the recent hit 'Happy' ... guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Flying the flag for small town life:  Check out the August issue of North and South Magazine to see an update on an article (see below) that the publication did on Geraldine in 1998.  It shows we are well and truly going strong and that as a town we are more vibrant than ever before!

The Go Geraldine Networking Breakfast Series:  Go Geraldine is pleased to invite all members to the first 'GG Networking Breakfast' to be held on Tuesday 4th August and the delicious Verde Café Deli.  The breakfast events will be held in addition to our regular Business at Six events and if popular will become a permanent feature on the GG calendar.  Special guest speaker will be Simon Coleman, GHS Principal.  Verde have really pushed the boat out to offer a tasty and warming winter breakfast at a really affordable price, especially for GG members.  Make sure you RSVP today!

Chat with the Chair:  Every Friday, 9.45-10.45 am at the Geraldine Resource Centre.  Bring your thoughts, ideas and opinions!
