The Last of Us 4XLP, The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears, Pieces OST

Welcome to the first in our weekly music newsletters. We’re hoping this weekly blast will become the go-to place to not only find out about our forthcoming record releases, but also information about other soundtrack labels we admire and any other cool new releases out there at the moment. It will also give us the chance to keep you up to date with everything in production so you don’t have to chase us to see where things are in the pipeline.

We realize since Death Waltz and Mondo joined forces, it’s been pretty much non-stop with regard to record releases, but maybe we didn’t take the necessary time to break down exactly what it really meant and how it affects both labels. After a meeting of the minds a few weeks back, we have decided to hence-forth refer to our music offering as Mondo Music. This will be the overall name for our record division and within that banner falls separate divisions: Mondo, Death Waltz Recording Co., Death Waltz Originals, and Distributed titles.

Confused? Understandable. It took us a few months to truly grasp it ourselves, but we've created this handy graphic to better explain.
Spencer & Mo go into detail about each of these divisions on our blog, which you can check out here.

As well as letting you know about all of the above Mondo releases, the newsletter will also feature a small paragraph about new releases that we are currently buying and listening to with link to the relevant labels / stores. We hope this becomes a useful addition to your weekly shop highlighting others work that we think you’ll love.

Finally, we’ll be compiling a monthly Soundcloud mix that will feature new & forthcoming music, not only from the Mondo stable but also tracks from other labels we're spending time with on our turntables, giving you an essential monthly overview of the international soundtrack, game, anime and television scene. You can check out Volume One here!
Here's what we have coming up this week! New releases for all divisions go on sale Wednesdays (unless otherwise noted) at a random time on our site. Be sure to follow us on Twitter for updates & sale announcements!

Included on over 240 Game Of The Year lists, Naughty Dog's survival horror masterpiece features a soundtrack that rivals some of greatest film scores of the last ten years. Fact Magaizine has listed the soundtrack as the #2 Best Video Game soundtrack of all time.

This 4XLP Box set, housed in a heavy duty Slip case featuring original artwork from Olly Moss & Jay Shaw, contains every audio cue from the massive hit game including cues from the 2014's DLC "Left Behind."
DEATH WALTZ RECORDING COMPANY
The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears Re-Score. Curated by Blanck Mass. Artwork by Gilles Vranckxx. 140 Gram Vinyl featuring 1 Blue & Red Splatter and 1 Green & Red Splatter Record. Limited to 500 Worldwide.
Available Wednesday (June 22nd) at a random time. $30
Death Waltz Originals are proud to present a spectacular new record curated by Blanck Mass & commissioned exclusively by the East End Film Festival, an alternative score to the 2013 film THE STRANGE COLOUR OF YOUR BODY'S TEARS, directed by Bruno Forzani and Héléne Catet. A full-on homage to the Italian giallo films from Mario Bava and Dario Argento, the original release had no original score and instead used music from existing giallo films. Edinburgh musician Ben Power (Blanck Mass, Fuck Buttons) devised to use this as a stage for experimentation and collaboration with several artists from across the globe.

Each artist was given a scene to work with and was given complete free reign to restore the scene how they wanted to, without any knowledge of what was planned for the film by other musicians. Contributions came from Stockholm's Roll The Dice, London's Helm, Moon Gangs and Phil Julian, Glasgow's Konx-Om-Pax, and New York's C. Spencer Yeh, as well as Blanck Mass. The end result is a fascinating score that enthralls, seduces and terrifies in equal measures. Due to be performed live later in 2015, THE STRANGE COLOR OF YOUR BODY'S TEARS re-score is a testament to the quality of alternative artists working today, as well as evidence of the ongoing inspiration that Italian horror continues to supply to contemporary art.
DISTRIBUTED TITLES
Pieces - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
(WRWTFWW Records). Pressed on 140 gram Black Vinyl. Available for the first time on vinyl, featuring tracks by Fabio Frizzi, Stelio Cipriani and Carlo Maria Cordio. Available Wednesday (June 22nd) at a random time. $25

"You don't have to go to Texas for a chainsaw massacre!"

Released by We Release Whatever The F*ck We Want Records, PIECES (1982) is available for the first time ever on vinyl! PIECES is a gloriously ridiculous film defying logic, cohesion and many other things that make film good, but it is one of the best over the top splatter movies ever made. Its soundtrack was all licensed from Italy's CAM records library and features such masters as Fabio Frizzi, Stelvio Ciprinani & Carlo Mario Cordio.

Its original score is surprisingly elegant, full of eerie jazz, menacing synths, and soulful escapades - a well balanced mix finding its influences in Giallo and Blaxploitation soundtracks of the 70s and classic horror movie music of the 80s.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is scheduled to complete on 7/24, and will be shipped to us promptly after. We expect to begin shipping the record around 7/29.
ALIENS 2XLP - The response to this title was huge at San Diego Comic-Con this year. As stated to most of you at the show who missed out, this was not an event exclusive title, and will go online shortly. We anticipate releasing this online in the next two weeks. Stay tuned!
SUPERMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES DIE-CUT SINGLE - Similar to ALIENS, this was a non-event exclusive title that was premiered at SDCC, but will make it online. Due to how complex the manufacturing is on this title, we estimate we won't be able to sell this title until late August. We will continue to update you when we have more information!

SPENCER'S PICK OF THE WEEK
Obviously I hope you guys are all picking up our own releases and distributed titles this week, but I can totally recommend the new Slasher Dave album Chubbies available from Bellyache Records.

It’s got a total 80s synth worship vibe going on and clips along at a really great pace. You’ll find a track on this month's mix to whet your appetite and the record is ltd to 500 copies (250 blue / 250 black). A great record on a great label that deserves your attention.

MO'S PICK OF THE WEEK
I spent the last several weeks preparing for San Diego Comic-Con, so diligently that I missed all the announcements the preceded it - including the announcement of Iam8Bit’s BATTLETOADS soundtrack release. One of my favorite games growing up, and one of my all time favorite soundtracks - pressed on a stunning Yellow and Green swirl. Iam8Bit is getting into the soundtrack game with JOURNEY later this year, and it was a nice surprise to see them selling this piece at the XBox pop-up shop.

You can follow Iam8Bit for more information, and for when they will be releasing the non SDCC version of this stellar soundtrack.
