Virtual Student Foreign Service Internship Program

Application deadline: Wednesday, 22 July

The U.S. Department of State’s Virtual Student Foreign Service eInternship program is bigger and better than ever. In addition to contributing to important projects and work, eInterns are connected to each other through an online community and mentored by supervisors. VSFS is a way for the American public and government employees to collaborate on projects of global importance. Selected applicants will volunteer up to ten hours per week contributing to projects for an office or section from September 2015 through May 2016. See internships available. Apply now.

Lint Center Scholarship

Application deadline: Friday, 31 July

This program is offered to help further the education and career development of scholars, especially in the areas of international affairs, counterintelligence, and national security. The main goal of the Lint Center is to help smart, innovative scholars attend college and contribute to national security, freedom, and build better alliances. Students will be given the opportunity to create a forum for idea generation to aid national security. They will also receive assistance in getting published. The aim is to mentor and help those who may help the nation and freedom in the future. By applying, students will first be entered to receive a $1,500 scholarship. On Campus Internships

Application deadline: Early August

On Campus Internships, Bus M 494R, is a three-credit-hour class where you complete a project for a company as part of a 4–5 person team. You work 6 to 9 hours per week on your own flexible schedule. You may add the internship to your resume and discuss this professional level experience in your interviews. Many students have found On Campus Internships as a way to learn about job experiences in their major and to use what they are learning in the classroom in the real world. All majors accepted and students from freshman to senior can participate. To learn more, go to the student web site and read the program descriptions and other background information. On campus Internships are assigned early in August, so go online and fill out the application to be considered. Then be sure to register for the class (Bus M 494R section 001 or one of the specialty sections).

Fall Internship with Al Jazeera English

Application deadline: Monday, 3 August

Al Jazeera is seeking focused, self-motivated individuals with demonstrated knowledge of journalistic practice, social media, and geo-political issues. Interns will be assigned to either a documentary or discussion program. These programs focus on the documentary “Fault Lines” as well as the discussion groups called “The Stream” and “Upfront.” Each internship requires 35 hours of work per week for three months. INSS Internship Opportunities Fall 2015

The Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS) at the National Defense University (NDU) in Washington, D.C., is now accepting applications for its fall semester 2015 Internship Program. They offer unpaid internships in a variety of areas pertaining to national security and international affairs. All INSS interns provide substantive research assistance to our Senior Fellows and Staff, as well as have the opportunity to participate in Defense Department and Interagency meetings and events. Currently they are offering internship opportunities in three areas. Council of Hemispheric Affairs Internship

The Council on Hemispheric Affairs (COHA), a major tax-exempt, nonprofit, and nonpartisan national research and information organization, offers internships in Washington, D.C., in the fields of U.S., Latin American, and Canadian relations. These internships provide practical, entry level experience regarding a variety of political, economic, diplomatic, and trade issues. They also provide young scholars with excellent exposure to the policy-making process. COHA seeks highly qualified undergraduate and graduate students as well as those who have already earned degrees. Applications are accepted on rolling basis, but it is advised that you send them several months before your desired starting date (internships available fall/winter). Council of the Americas Internship

The Council of the Americas Washington office seeks a student intern with office experience. This position provides the opportunity to work in the Washington policy community as well as unique exposure to influential government and business leaders from the Americas. Policy areas may include energy, trade, Asia–Latin America relations, technology, health, and others. Must have at least two years of college or university to qualify and be fluent in Spanish. To apply, please e-mail cover letter, resume, and a 1–2 page English writing sample, preferably on a topic related to COA's work, to Kezia McKeague at kmckeague@as-coa.org. In your cover letter, please explain why you are a good fit for the position. Please include “Policy Internship” in the subject line and specify if you are applying for a spring, summer, or fall position.

BYU Homecoming Brimhall Memorial Essay Contest

Submission deadline: Thursday, 24 September, noon

The BYU Student Alumni Association and descendants of former BYU President George H. Brimhall honor the founders of Brigham Young University each year at Homecoming with the Brimhall Essay Contest. The competition is designed to encourage high levels of scholarship among BYU students and to promote understanding and appreciation of BYU’s mission and legacy and the challenges of its great founders. This year, BYU will honor Abraham O. Smoot. First prize wins $3,000 with second, third, and honorable mention prizes also available. For contest details see flyer.
