Establishing Twitter as a Public Health Tool 

At a time when Twitter feeds are filled with messages from Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and the Kardashians, recent use of the social media platform has shown is can be used a serious tool for public health officials. This past June, Michelle Odlum, EdD, assistant professor and Sunmoo Yoon PhD, postdoctoral research scientist, published a study in American Journal of Infection Control which found that people in Nigeria were tweeting about Ebola’s arrival in their country three days before any official announcement from the Nigerian government or the World Health Organization.  more....
