FULL MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL PROGRAM UNVEILED
We've already been delivered a taste of this year's Melbourne International Film Festival, and now the full program has landed, boasting an impressive international schedule that features the likes of Abel Ferrara's Pasolini, Kirby Dick's The Hunting Ground doco investigating US college rapes, the buzzed-about Turbo Kid, Ethan Hawke's music doco Seymour: An Introduction and more. Parts of the Next Gen, First Glance, and other films have been announced over the past month, and while impressive, have only scratched the surface of the talent pool. MADMAN PRODUCTION BECOMES TOP AUSSIE DOCO OF ALL TIME
Madman production, That Sugar Film, has become the number one Australian documentary of all time. It has now taken more than $1.6 million at the box office and almost $500,00 in New Zealand cinemas. WORLD OF LOCATIONS: AUSTRALIA
Our laidback lifestyle and advanced film infrastructure are big attractions for film-makers and talent spending six months or more Down Under. The Australian dollar has been weakening against the US dollar, which is good news for attracting international production. Securing Disney's Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was a big win, along with US indie Truth, filmed in Sydney and NBC Universal Syfy's Childhood's End in Melbourne. Thanks to our friends at Transmission Films, we've got 10 double passes to see Academy Award nominee Ian McKellen star in MR HOLMES. In 1947, the world famous sleuth has retired to a remote Sussex farmhouse, living in relative anonymity with only his housekeeper Mrs Munro (Laura Linney) and her young son Roger for company. Cantankerous, demanding and frustrated with the mis-representation of him in Watson's best-setting novels, he diverts his attention to an unsolved case.
